Back home for good

Jack was back again, for the last time. He decided this was it for him, he wasn't going to leave Point Pleasant again no matter what happened. He had just got out of a cab from the airport and just had a need to see her. He thought about what he would say to her the whole time on the plane and still was able to not come up with anything that sounded as good out loud as it did in his head. It was a saturday night and he was hoping she wasn't going to be at her dorm and that she would be home for the weekend. He re adjusted his shoulder strap of his army duffle bag and walked up the path to her house. He didn't sleep on the plane ride or the night before. He was wearing a leather racer jacket, a pair of worn in jeans, and a long sleeved dark and light gray shirt. He knocked on the door strongly.

Ava was watching a movie on her couch, pj pants and popcorn along, when she surprisingly heard a knock at the door. Blake? No, he'd said he was busy that night.

Still curious, she went to see and opened the door. "Hey.." she said wondering what Jack was doing there. "I thought you'd be in New York by now.."

He looked at her and swallowed hard.Everything he was going to say was gone at that moment.So he decided to just go with it." I was there for a week" He told her.He looked her in the eyes," I don't belong there" He blurted out.

He didn't belong there? Where was this coming from? All she'd ever heard from him is how much he hated Point Pleasant. "So..where now? Scotland again? Somewhere new?"

" No no..I'm staying here..I'm not leaving again" He said truthfully taking a step forward. He just wanted to blurt it out already but didn't feel like having a door slammed in his face

"Um wow..okay.." Ava said stunned by this revelation, then remembering that they were still in the doorway. "Come in.." she said, moving out of the way for him and going in herself, turning off 'My Best Friend's Wedding' which was still playing on the dvd player.

He took a step inside and looked around, not much had changed since the last time he'd been there.He opened his mouth to speak,"I love you" He blurted out.

She was about to speak when he blurted out 'I love you.' and she turned to face him. "Again wow.." Ava said nervously runing a hand through her hair. "You don't waste any time..Where did that come from?"

" I've always felt it, I mean I didn't have a good enough chance with you back then and..I wasn't around as much as I wanted to be but I know for a fact I felt it then and still now...I love you" He explained

Ava sat down on the arm on the couch, wondering what to say, but no words came so she stayed wordless for a while. "Jack..I think you may be too late." she said.

" It's never to late.. I'm here and i'm not going anywhere. I've got my job back and I'm applying to a new college close by. I'm even trying to get my old apartment back...And I'm ready. I'm ready for this. You can count on me now. I know you couldn't count on me before, but you can now. You can Ava " He said in a huff.

Ava bit her lip and shook her head. "That's not what I mean." she said simply, then paused thinking of how to say it. "While you were gone...Blake came back, Jack."

Jack's face fell,he felt like a complete moron now. Hey, atleast one of them we're getting their second chance. He didn't say anything for a while as he adjusted the bag on his shoulder,"I uh..I'm gonna go"He said motioning to the door,his face emotionless as he headed to the door," I hope you two are happy" He said before walking out and heading to the curb and started walking toward the diner.

Ava watched him go out then followed and went to the door, staying to see him go out of sight before shutting the door. She leaned against it and sighed and finally, went back to the couch where she finished her movie. Anything to take her mind off of what had happened.
