Kennedy had been near the kitchen, a crying Ryan in her arms, but her main concern had been to get the water up since she knew Ryan wasn't crying because he'd been hurt. The little boy was simply giving his lungs a workout since he'd been scared after his mother raised her voice, but she was used to that since it happened quite frequently when he was getting into something he shouldn't have been. She stopped walking though when Lance made his way around her and seemed to know right where to go for everything he needed, and then she watched as he passed her again with the paper towels in hand.
She turned back around as she watched him get to the spot on the floor and start cleaning the mess up. She bounced Ryan on her thigh using one hand to run it through his dark hair giving him a soft kiss on the forehead. "Mommy's not mad at you, you just need to be more careful with her when she's holding things." She whispered to the little boy as she wiped a few stray tears from his cheeks. "Real tears and everything?" She told the little boy and couldn't help but laugh, her son was quite the drama king. She looked back at Lance when the boy had finally stopped screaming to see him pick up the mess of paper towels and the cup and bring them back towards the kitchen. "You really didn't have to do that." She told him as he passed her, though he seemed on a mission so she just stepped back and let him do what he'd wanted to. It sort of felt good that he still remembered her house since it made things a lot easier for the both of them.
When he was finished cleaning up the spot Kenn went over to look at it and it seemed he had done a pretty good job of cleaning it up. She knew the rest would dry but he'd gotten most of the water out so that was a good thing. "Okay?" She asked not knowing what he'd been talking about since she hadn't done anything, but that is when she figured he'd been talking about Ryan and the cup. "Oh you'd be surprised how often that happens. He's always running into my legs and grabbing them, i'm normally not stupid enough to be holding something when he does it though." She had to laugh a little as Ryan started to giggle now. "What little man you doing it on purpose?" She asked as she looked her son in the eyes. He had such beautiful little eyes for an eighteen month old. "You silly little man." She went and put him back down on the floor and he started to step in the wet spot. "We go through this too all the time." she said luckily he hadn't been wearing socks or she'd have to change them.

Lance shrugged his shoulders, "It's ok like I said i'd like to help in anyway I can." He said not looking up at her as he cleaned the carpet. He wiped it up as well as possible and seemed to get most of it and smiled at his work. His facial expression went back to nothing as he stood up and walked back to the kitchen to put everything back the way he had found it. He walked back out and smirked as she talked to him. He couldn't help but smile when he as around Kennedy especially as he saw her being a mother. She was definitely amazing at it and he was sure her having to do it alone only made her stronger. He had wished he had made the better decision and stayed around when his son was born and stayed to be a great dad. Though he didn't and he needed to move on from that.
He nodded as she talked about how Ryan always ran into her legs. He had just been concerned because he didn't know if she had been hurt or something. He knew he was trying too hard but he couldn't help himself, "Ah well umm..." He said staying quiet and rubbing the back of his neck as he looked around. He wasn't sure if he should stay considering they didn't have much to say and Ryan looked like he just wanted his mom there. Visitors seemed like a rare thing around here considering how shy Ryan was though he was sure that was how all little kids were around a strange new face. "...maybe I should go? I don't want to be an inconvenience to you or anything...I mean I uhh...i'm just gonna shut up now." He said as he felt the redness creep up from his neck to his face. He didn't want to seem like he wanted to get out of there because he didn't but he wasn't sure if Kennedy still wanted him just looming around. He looked down at the ground attempting to hide his redness but he knew as he slowly looked up his face was still beet red.

Kennedy looked over at him quickly when he talked about maybe leaving. Didn't he just get there not too long ago? Why would he drive out of his way to get to her house just to turn around and leave not too long after getting there? She wanted to tell him he could stick around for a little while, it had just been so long and part of her was screaming to have him stay around, but she had to think of a way that would make it sound like she wouldn't mind but didn't exactly enjoy the idea. She stayed quiet as she looked down at Ryan on the floor as he moved from the wet spot to back over towards his toys, and that gave him a small amount of distance from the two standing there. "Ryan isn't normally like this." She said quietly looking at Lance before checking to make sure Ryan was still in the living room playing with his toys. "He doesn't see too many men around here, I think since he's been born you're pretty much the only one that has visited." She had tried to keep herself away from as many men as possible only because she had created such a name for herself around town, so by staying away from the male gender she thought she was helping solve the problem in some shape or form. "I think he's just nervous having another male around, maybe he thinks he's not going to get all the attention or something?" She was trying to sound like she knew what she was talking about, trying to have that hint of professionalism in her voice, but there was no way that was happening as she just shrugged looking at him.
Ryan could hear small chattering coming from his mother so picked a toy up and came walking over just as Kenn was about to say something about wanting him to stick around, so in a panic she thought of the first thing that came to mind. "You never signed my yearbook." What the hell had that meant? She hadn't a clue why she had freaked out so much having her son come over, it wasn't like he understood what the two were talking about, but of course silly her she had to make the most out of any situation. "I mean I don't think you ever did." Truth be told he hadn't signed her yearbook, she had been pregnant and avoiding him at the time since him and Rachel had still been close or whatever, but it wasn't like she needed him to sign it years later right? "You know I am going to be cooking dinner soon, maybe Ryan wouldn't mind a guest?" She asked curiously looking down at the boy who was grinning at the two of them. Ryan of course wouldn't mind as long as he would be eating, and Kenn knew it had been wrong to use her son like that, but she couldn't come right out and say that she wanted him around. That would just throw him and her back into a loop that the two did not need to be in again right now.

Lance was about to take his steps towards the doors figuring Kennedy was glad he had finally gotten some hint that he should leave. It wasn't his place to show up unannounced though he was kind of glad he did. He had seen the certain look in her eye when he had said that he was no longer with Rachel. He was relieved to be out of that relationship though it was heart breaking at the same time. He had loved her at one point but that love had just dwindled into nothing. Though as he saw Ryan go back into the living room it gave them a few moments alone. He looked at her waiting for the goodbye or something that told him she wanted him to leave but he was a bit shocked at her next few words. He nodded understanding where she was coming from. He wouldn't doubt if Kennedy had just put her focus on Ryan and not too many other guys.
He could see where the little boy was coming from. He definitely wasn't there to steal the attention. Sure he wanted to just have some conversations with Kennedy and him by themselves. He wanted to get to know his son and get back in his life. "I can understand that. I know this is a little weird." Hell who was he kidding it was really weird but he felt little was the best way to put it at the moment. Lance raised his eyebrows at her next statement. Where the hell had that come from? He was surprised at everything right now. Obviously he had gotten it wrong when he had thought that Kennedy wanted him to leave. "Well I can understand why seeing as what had happened..." He said slowly not really knowing what to say. He had gotten back to Rachel and he hadn't wanted to upset her anymore than he already had. "If you want me to stay..." He said raising his eyes to her as she had asked him to stay for dinner. He definitely wanted more time around his son and Kennedy. She was still stunningly beautiful even when she didn't try.

If you want me to stay... Kenn played his words over in her head as she looked down at the ground unsure of what to say. Of course she wanted him to stay. She would scream it at the top of her lungs that the man should stay, but instead of doing any of that she simply gave a soft shrug looking up at him with a soft smile before retreating towards the kitchen. "A dinner wouldn't hurt." She said as Ryan trotted behind her almost kicking her in the heels as he walked. She had really wished the boy would have been sleeping so she could talk to Lance, like really actually talk to him, but of course the man had to show up right after the kid had woken up from nap practically. Great timing bozo, she thought to herself as she let out an inaudible laugh. What the hell was she even going to have? Ryan followed her as she looked through the cupboards trying to figure out what exactly she could cook, but making it look like she'd known all along. "Hey Lance," She called not knowing where he was, for all she knew he could be right in the kitchen with her since she'd been too nervous to look. Hearing his name come from her lips made a tingle get sent throughout her entire body warming her instantly as she couldn't help but grin behind the cover of a cupboard so he couldn't see.
When the grin finally was under control she shut the cupboard and looked to see him standing in the kitchen with her. She turned and leaned against the counter as she rested her hands on either side of her. "I'm glad you're back in town." She said finally. She wanted him to at least know that she was happy to see him back around. Whether she was still mad at him or not the fact still remained that she appreciated him in her life, though she wasn't going to go and tell him that much. "I'm sorry about the thing with Rachel and all, but some things are just not meant to be you know?" She asked with a hopeful smile. She also knew that there were those some things that were meant to be as well, her and Lance...well she wasn't sure what was meant to be between the two of them, but now that he had been back in town she could at least try to find out.

Was this truly happening? Could he finally be breaking through Kennedy's wall she had built up around her while he had been away? Of course she would make it seem like he had only made a dent but he was definitely hoping he had done a hell of a lot more than that. He grinned a bit to himself as she mentioned that a dinner wouldn't hurt. So it was true. She did want him around no matter what she truly said. He knew her stubbornness would wear him down but all he could do was show her that he was trying to change and he would have to hope she would accept it. He did want to see if a relationship could be pursued between the two because he wanted to be back with her. He looked back on the relationship he had shared with Rachel and knew it had been all wrong. He had just gone back to Rachel because Kennedy had told him too because she was still in love with Rodney. He had never been truly happy with Rachel. Kennedy had always been on his mind. There hadn't been a day that had gone by in those long years that he hadn't thought of the beautiful blonde that had given him a child. "Well then i'd be glad to stay." He said smiling at her as he crossed his arms over his chest. He wanted to let her know that he appreciated her kindness.
Lance had watched her as she walked into the kitchen. He smirked a bit as he paid attention to her figure as she walked. Damn...still sexy as ever. He said slowly arching his eyebrow as she disappeared. He let his arms fall to his sides as he followed her. He stopped in the doorway lifting his arms to let his hands clutch the door frame. He leaned in a bit as he watched her search through the cupboard. As he heard her call his name he felt his heart skip a beat. It was great to hear her call his name again. This time without a hint of hatred in her voice. What she said next was something he never expected to hear and it showed in his reaction. He let go of the door frame and stepped into the kitchen a shocked look on his face. She was glad to see him? Really? This made him warm up and his heart speed up a bit. He knew he probably looked a bit flustered now but he calmed himself down quickly. He was sure Kenn had caught a hint of his flustered-ness before he had been able to hide it.
"I'm glad to be back in town...for good." He said smiling as he made eye contact with her for a brief moment. He was sure this was where he wanted to stay now. No more running he was finally sure what he wanted to do and where he wanted to stay. He could finally see happiness in his future. His eyes went down to Ryan for a brief second and a smile appeared upon his lips. Only seeing the boy for about an hour now he could feel his unconditional love for him grow even further even if it was possible. He understood the boy couldn't know too much about him right now because that would just be confusing. He couldn't wait though for the future to come. Lance finally took some more steps towards Kennedy and leaned against the counter putting his head against a close cupboard as he looked at the beautiful girl. As she spoke about Rachel he nodded his head. He didn't want to say anything more about Rachel. He was done with his past and ready to move forward. He had a feeling Kennedy sensed that too since he dismissed the subject quite quickly and without words said, "So Miss Adams what are we having for dinner?" He asked curiously with a playful grin on his lips as he caught her eyes.

Kennedy nodded some when he said said for good. She had wanted him to be around and even still her thoughts were torn between two people. Rodney had just came back to town recently too. She had met up with him at the mall when he pretty much stayed civil for as long as he could before just getting pushed over the edge and leaving. Their encounter had been brief and about as unpleasant as it could get, but still just knowing he too was bad had her mind going all around the place once more. What the hell were these two men doing to her? Did they plan this? The sudden coming back to town bit where both would talk to her? Lance made it apparant that he wanted to be around, Rodney making it obvious that he could care less though Kenn didn't believe it entirely, so at this point Kenn was back at square one wishing neither had showed up when they did. She could have done it if one would have just came back, either one would have been fine because her feelings were strong for the both of them, but to have both together ripped her apart inside. She knew that if she'd had to choose though it would have been Lance for the soul reason that their child had the final say in the matter, and he needed a father around. Rodney wasn't that father, through circumstances her heart had gotten her into Lance had been the father. She wasn't mad about that at all though, almost grateful because he did come back and wanted to be in their lives.
When he moved on from the subject of Rachel through no words Kenn took it as a sign to forget. She couldn't entirely forget about the woman because she had been through so much because of her, her being the biggest reason that Lance had left in the first place leaving Kennedy alone to take care of their child right out of high school. That had upset her, Kennedy had not been ready to be a parent but couldn't have ran away like he had. She knew he had his reasons, Rachel being the main one, but still the thought just upset her so she tried not to think about it too much. The monthly checks that he had sent that weren't cashed were a sign that he still thought of them, though only enough to send paper money and not any greeting other than that. He never called to see how his kid had been doing, there had been no letters of even postcards from him letting her know what he had been up to or where he had been residing. The only reason she knew he had been in new york was because of the postmark on the envelope the checks came in, other than that she had no idea. When he had asked what was for dinner though she looked back in the cupboards, she had so much crap that she just couldn't think of something that would be easy but still enjoyable.
"If I knew a guest was going to be over I would have taken something out," She told him as her head had been in the cupboard. Her son tugged at her leg as she looked down at him, his mouth wide open as he pointed up in the cupboard. "You're going to pick something out little man?" She asked as she lifted him up to stand on the counter so he could see what she had been looking at. His hand reached up and grabbed a box shaking it as he pulled it from the cupboard, a box of macarooni and cheese. "You want that?" She asked curiously as her son grinned nodding as he shook the box and Kenn put him on the floor with it. "That good enough for you?" She asked curiously, it was nothing special but she really didn't have time to prepare anyway. "We have other stuff too, you can look through the fridge or something?" She offered, if there was something special he wanted that didn't take forever to cook she could do it, she had made the offer to have him over so the least she could do was make whatever he'd wanted. "I'm becoming quite the chef," She told him laughing as she fumbled through one of the lower cupboards to grab a pot to cook the macarooni and cheese in, even if they were to have something else her son seemed to want that box of stuff. He did love mac and cheese though, Kenn was thankful because it was quick on nights she had to work later.
She went and put the pot on the stove looking around as she watched Lance for just a moment wondering what was going through his head. She felt nervous and knew what she had been thinking so she could only imagine how hard it had been for him. Especially since their son was right there before his eyes running around babbling in his baby talk where Lance could see and watch him. "Ryan, where are you going?" Kenn called as she heard the box of Macarooni and cheese leaving the kitchen. "I swear i'm going to bolt your feet to the floor mister, get back here." She hated when he went around the house away from her. Lord only knew what that little monster could be getting into. "Could you excuse me?" She asked as she walked past Lance and started to chase after her little tyke through the living room.

Lance stood there as he watched her pick Ryan up. He couldn't wait to be in that position to be able to hold his son and play with him and make him happy. He grinned as he pulled out a box of macaroni and cheese. As Kennedy offered to make Lance something else he just shook his head, "No it's okay that's fine with me. I don't want to be any trouble." He knew that could be made easily and Lance never had a problem with mac and cheese. It had been his favorite as a kid and he had never really grown apart from it. "I haven't had that in a while i've been stuck with fancy dinners." He said rolling his eyes as he thought back to his loft with Rachel in New York. She had been living the high life and he had been riding on her coat tails. He was so sick and tired of all the fancy stuff. The parties they had had to go to. He just wanted to go back to the simple life. This was another reason he had wanted to leave Rachel. He didn't like the big n rich life. Now if he could provide that for his son and Kennedy he wouldn't mind but the simple life was just fine with him.
Lance placed his hand over his mouth as he held back a laugh but failed as he saw Ryan escape with their dinner in hand. He just nodded at Kennedy when she ran after Ryan. He felt useless standing their doing nothing but didn't know what he could do to help that. He walked back over to the door frame to watch Kennedy chase the little boy. He had a warm smile on his face as he watched it all go down. For a moment their it felt like they were a family and this was just another night at home. He couldn't express enough how much he wanted to be a dad. He also wouldn't mind being a faithful husband but he would have to let Kennedy come around on her own terms. Lance had learned a lot while he had been away from Kennedy. He had finally matured from his high school ways. He had noticed how Kennedy had changed but that was to be expected if you had to be a single mother right out of high school.
"Need any help?" He asked needing to feel useful again as he stood there with his arms across his chest. He was grinning of course but that's because the sight of Ryan running away from her and still getting away was pretty amusing. He was enjoying seeing his son but he knew they needed to talk alone without interruptions. So now Lance's plan was to stay as late as possible to see if he could stay after Ryan fell asleep. He really wanted to talk to her alone and see how things were going to work out. There were only certain things they could say at the moment. Like how Lance was just a friend and all these other things.

Kennedy rounded the couch as her son squirmed behind it trying to dart back towards the door to run into the dining room, so she quickly jumped over the couch intercepting him at the door scooping him up into her arms laughing as she pulled him up giving him kisses on the cheek causing him to squirm in her arms laughing. The box he had been running around with had dropped to the floor and Kenn let out a triumphant cheer as she placed her son on the ground and snatched the box up before he had time to bend down and get it. "Gotta be faster than that, baby." She teased, her son whining for a second but starting to chase Kenn who walked fast back into the kitchen. She hadn't even realized Lance had been watching, she was so used to things like that with Ryan around so it just felt normal. She did like having Lance there, she just wouldn't admit to it.
"What, help? Nah, i've become a pro at this." She said with a laugh as she thought of how easy it had been to make the mac n' cheese. She grabbed the pot she had taken out and filled it with some water putting it on the stove and turning it on high. She watched as Ryan went to the fridge tugging at it until it opened, Kennedy quickly going over to make sure he didn't grab something he was supposed to out of there. "We don't need any of that stuff yet." She told him as he tried grabbing for the half gallon of milk that had been in there. "We have to cook the macarooni first, goober." She teased shutting the door as Ryan just stared up at her, his glance going over to Lance for a few seconds as Kenn turned back towards the stove to make sure she had turned the right burner on. There had been so many times that she had turned the wrong burner on when she had been in the middle of chasing Ryan around, but luckily she could see the coils underneath the pan turning red.
Kenn looked at her son and then Lance as she motioned towards the water. "It's going to be a few minutes before it boils, do you want to sit down or something?" She asked pointing back towards the living room, or even the dining room because she could sit Ryan up in his booster chair and give him something to munch on to calm him down before dinner. "Where is your sippy anyway buckwheat?" She asked giving Ryan one of the many nicknames she had for him. He looked around on the floor and started running back towards the living room laughing thinking his mother had been chasing him again, but instead she had her hand leaned against the counter as she just looked at Lance. "He's wild but with all this running around he should sleep good tonight, hopefully." She said, lately the boy had been waking up a lot more causing Kenn's hours of sleep to diminish.
When her son returned shaking his sippy Kennedy reached down for it so she could fill it back up, so she reached into the fridge pulling out a bottled water. She unscrewed the cap and filled his sippy up as she returned the sippy to her son and motioned for him to head towards the table. "You want a sandwhich?" She asked as Ryan nodded going to his chair chugging on it so she could put him up there. "He loves peanut butter sandwiches." She told Lance as she lifted her son into the seat and buckled him there as she returned towards the kitchen. Her house was made great to where she could slap the peanut butter on a piece of bread and fold it while she could see her child. When she had been done she returned with a half sandwich and put it infront of her son, the boy grabbing it right up and bringing it to his mouth. "That should keep him satisfied for a few minutes." She teased some motioning towards the table if Lance wanted to sit down.

He chuckled a bit as Kennedy outwitted the child by diving over the couch quickly. He wouldn't lie he had checked her out a bit as she dove over. He could have made some witty comment but decided to keep it to himself. He just gave her a smile as she stood up and looked over at him. God she blew his mind. She was such a strong person he only wished he could be as strong of a person as she was. Though her strong-ness was a fault to a certain extent. She had this wall built up around her that was going to take him quite a bit of time to break back through. She had trusted him back when they were "together" if you could call it that. He liked to think of it that way even if it meant he had been cheating on Rachel. He knew as soon as he had fallen in love with Kennedy that he should have broken it off with Rachel to give him a better chance with Kennedy. He reached up and scratched the back of his head as she made it past him back into the kitchen.
"Well okay miss pro let's see you do this," he mocked jokingly as he winked at her. He was perfectly content with just standing there in the kitchen as she offered him a seat as she cooked. Though figured she probably offered for a reason. She might have wanted a bit of space which he can give her, or she was just being a good hostess which would be so Kennedy. He finally figured to not think to hard into it and go with the flow. As Ryan ran out to get his sippy cup he watched his son with a proud smile on his face. He felt like a new person seeing his own flesh and blood run around the house like the happiest kid in the world. He had always known Kennedy would be an amazing mother despite her protests. As he ran out of the room he quickly decided to get his comment in before his son came running back, "You're an amazing mother. Most kids could only wish to have what you give Ryan every day." He said smiling at Kennedy as he placed his hands in his pockets.
Lance was definitely hoping the toddler would have a good nights rest tonight. As she offered the child a sandwich and made the comment that he loved peanut butter sandwiches Lance made a mental not and merely nodded to Kennedy as she said it. He would have to remember all these little things that his son liked because he aspired to be the best dad he could after deserting these two for so long. He was pretty sure he would never stop beating him up about it but he was hoping that it would dwindle away and not be as intense as he got back into their lives. He chuckled lightly as she mentioned keeping the boy occupied for a little bit. He followed over to the table and took a seat as he looked around. He wished he had more to say but was drawing a blank as he clasped his hands together and leaned them against a table. "So let's hope your cooking is better than mine." He teased as he looked over at the beautiful blonde.

When her son had been out of earshot and Lance told her she'd been an amazing mother she couldn't help but feel very proud inside. She honestly had no idea what to say to that, there was nothing that she could compliment him on since he hadn't been around, so instead she mumbled a quick "thank you" not looking him directly in the eyes. If she had she would have probably blushed, though her cheeks were probably tainted a deep shade of red. A compliment coming from Lance had been something that Kennedy always appreciated, whether or not the two had never been officially together she still felt better than ever when he gave her each compliment. Unlike other men when he said each great thing to her about either her appearance or something she had done she knew that he had been being truthful, Lance had a hard time lying infront of her because she could see right through him.
When she sat down next to Ryan at the table and watched Lance sit across from her she looked around remembering that there had been two drinks, or were supposed to be until her son had knocked hers out of her hand. "I'll just go get the drinks," She said as she stood quickly and walked into the kitchen to grab the cup that had nothing in it, as well as Lance's cup that still had almost everything in it since he had pretty much forgotten about his drink when hers had dropped. She had felt so nervous having the three of them sitting so close at the table, she couldn't stay in there for too long because she couldn't figure out just what to talk to him about. She walked to the fridge and pulled out the original drink pouring some back in her cup as she brought the two full cups to the table putting his back infront of him. She placed hers infront of her and could hear the water rolling on the stove. "Could you just watch him for a second?" She asked as she went back towards the kitchen, she could still see the back of her son though so it wasn't like she was leaving him entirely alone with him.
She opened the box and poured the macarooni into the water stirring it with a slotted spoon she had taken from the cup ontop of the fridge. She looked at her son and Lance for a minute as a smile formed on her face, it was sort of nice to be making dinner for her family even if that wasn't what she could refer to Lance as. This seemed almost normal for her, even if the macarooni wasn't that great of a meal it still felt good. She let out a sigh knowing that her dreams were probably never going to come true, eventually he would leave again for some reason or another, so for now she would take advantage of the both of them being around. She stayed at the stove for a few minutes turning the heat down so the water wouldn't boil over, and soon she made her way back to the table for a minute. She didn't sit down as she couldn't leave the macarooni alone for too long or it would burn to the bottom of the pan. She did notice that her son had gotten peanut butter on his shirt so she laughed some as she leaned down to help her son out of his shirt. "Come on, let's get you out of that before you completely ruin it." She said as her son helped by lifting his arms and shaking his head out of the shirt. She tossed it over in the corner, she would pick it up later.
At this time she noticed the three freckles that were on her sons side facing Lance. She let out a sigh as she remembered that Lance had the same freckles on his side in almost the exact spot, her figuring that must have been her sons birthmark that linked him to his father sitting just right there. She couldn't hide them from him but was hoping he wouldn't notice, they were very small and somewhat faint right now so maybe he just wouldn't look too hard. "I should probably go stir that again," She felt somewhat uncomfortable as she turned to go back into the kitchen, her son grabbing his sippy cup and taking a drink from his mouth being dry from the peanut butter. She leaned her head against the fridge for a moment letting out a deep sigh as she thought about her and Lance having been together so long ago, it all seemed like a dream the more she thought about it. She kicked herself internally for taking her sons shirt off, she should have just let him ruin it so Lance wouldn't have even the slightest chance of learning of her sons birthmark. She stepped over to the stove stirring the macarooni as it started to tenderize.
