Kennedy smiled faintly when he thanked her as she mouthed a quick 'you're welcome' in his direction. She felt no need to speak right now as she watched him, his arms dropping and Kennedy almost bounding forward to grab the water, but he managed to make them hit the sheets beside him softly so no water that had been left in the cup had spilt. That is when she took another step back when she knew that he had been alright, this time her hands coming behind her so she could feel the wall and lean back against it. Why was she even here right now? This had just been too ackward but she knew this was where she needed to be, even if she had said such hurtful things to him earlier she had to be there in his time of need.
Kennedy let out a small chuckle and rolled her eyes at his next comment, that man sure did manage to get a few wins out of life. That was something she liked about him though, the fact that he never seemed to back down from things and usually came out on top of everything. She wished she could have had his attitude throughout high school, moreso after she had graduated and stepped into the real world, but sadly she had became shy and secluded from the world. She wasn't thinking when she made the comment about knowing him though, her eyes glancing up at him and catching the facial expression as she dropped them back to the ground, again staying quiet knowing that nothing she could say could improve the situation. "I have no room to talk about how you were in high school, some of the things I did back then were not the smartest of choices." Cheating on Rodney being a big one, Kenn had hated cheaters and yet in the end turned out to be one. There was just something about Lance, something that would always draw her to him no matter the situation.
"Yeah, but you wouldn't have drank if I-" She stopped talking knowing that this would start another arguement. Both of these guys kept strong opinions and would not back down from what they thought and so if she and him tried to juggle blame back and forth a fight was sure to come of it. Instead she just stayed silent looking up at him, this time keeping her eyes focused on him, in disbelief as he started to mention the thing about being sorry and wanting to apologize. "We aren't together, I don't know why you would feel the need to apologize for bringing your girlfriend to a social event. I would have done the same thing if I had been dating another man, but that hasn't happened since, well since you sort of." Had what those two had even considered a relationship, she had no idea, but the truth of the matter had been that since Lance she had never even tempted to get into a relationship. She had baggage, not too many men wanted to date a woman with a young child, and since she did not have much time to herself she knew she could never take the time to find someone and make something out of...well anything. She did not mind though, she knew that when the time was right she would find someone, she just hoped they could give her the same feelings that Lance had all those times, and whether she was too stubborn to admit it or not he still sent butterflies fluttering around her stomach.

Lance had a silent agreement with her as she mentioned how they acted in high school. They may have been some of the coolest kids in high school but that came with a high price. They did things that more than likely went against their morals. Though Lance believed things like that would happen in high school. It was all trial and error even if they had made the biggest error possible. They had somehow came out alive though he felt terrible for the way Kennedy was treated for it afterwords. He had tried to deflect some of the attention back to him but he never really got anything bad. It was disgusting to him to see that that was how society was now a days. "Don't worry about it I get used to snide comments about how I was in high school i've gotten over it," he shrugged.
All the kids he had given hell back then had grown up and in return grown confidence. They had no trouble telling him off though he found it childish that they still held a grudge against him he could kind of see where they were coming from. It was obvious he wanted to keep all the blame on himself tonight that was just the mood he was in and he wouldn't be swayed. He was definitely glad Kennedy wasn't be as strong headed about her opinions tonight otherwise an argument would have already started between them.
As she re-mentioned that they weren't together it pained him and he averted his eyes. He hated to hear that though he knew it was true. "I need to apologize because whether I have a girlfriend or not it wasn't right of me and you know that." When she said she hadn't dated anyone since whatever they had together he felt even more guilty. He sighed at hearing it and looked up at her. Why couldn't he just tell her how he felt? Probably because it would just blow up in his face which was his track record with her. He could never do anything right so why try? That was his mentality at the moment as bad as that was. It was even being portrayed in his tone as he talked to her. He had almost given up when it came to trying to get back in her life.

Kennedy nodded, she needed to follow his lead and just get over everything herself and then maybe the both of them would be happier, she wouldn't be such an annoyance and she might just let Lance back into her life without a fight every step of the way, but asking her to let go of a grudge or anything of the sort was harder then hell. She was just way too damn stubborn. She shook her head once more after he kept talking about how it had not been right to bring her there. "I have to get used to seeing you with other women at some point or other right? I guess the worst part about it all is knowing she's got a son, that you're spending all that time with her and probably him too. It's almost like she's just a younger less flustered and dramatic mess version of me." She had to admit that much to him while they were talking. She felt that way though, Emma had been a teenage mother of a little boy just like Kenn had been, the only difference was Lance was happy being in her life and not miserable like Kenn usually made him.
When she let it slip that she had stayed single since their 'relationship' she could see a sense of pain in his eyes and she could notice the sigh. She quirked an eyebrow as she looked at him confused, why would her being single be such a disappointment to him? "I don't mind being single you know, it's not the end of the world. I manage to make it through the day without that second person, and Ryan doesn't seem to mind me playing both parental figures. Don't be upset or anything about it, I just haven't put myself back out there yet. That's all, it's nothing you should take personal." She said that last little bit with a sarcastic tone just because of the fact that Lance had put himself out there. He was engaged to Rachel and now dating Emma, he did not seem to be having a hard time at all.
Kennedy let out a sigh looking towards the door wondering where the hell Emma had been, this conversation was going on and she was doing her best not to argue, but it did just get harder and harder the more she talked and watched his reactions to certain words and phrases. He was being very sincere and polite tonight though, that made it easier for her not to lash out at him. "You want to see the cutest picture of Ryan? He was at my cousins birthday party the other weekend and they gave him a corner piece of cake. His hands dove into the frosting and I swear he had nothing but green and blue frosting all over his face and in his hair. It was such a mess, here let me get my phone." Kennedy fumbled through her pockets finding the phone and luckily when she had gotten it she flipped it right open and that is when she first noticed she had a missed call and one new voice message. She looked curiously and saw that the number had been Lance's so the message must be from him as well. "Mind if I check my messages? It could be about Ryan? I will show you the picture right after."
What on earth had he been calling her about? She walked to the far corner of the room and dialed voicemail as she waited patiently for all the stupid talking to get done. She could hear the message start to play, his drunken voice ringing clearly in her ear as he had said all those things about his feelings towards her and all that of the sort, and then the message was over. Kennedy let out a small faint gasp not having wanted to hear any of that, especially not when he was right in the room, but she couldn't help but look over at him with that confused bewildered look on her face for a moment. She had to snap out of it though, maybe since he had been drinking and had gotten into that accident he forgot about the message. "It was nobody, everything is fine. Here," Her fingers were shaking as she pulled the photo up on her phone and walked over to the bed to show him. Her son, their son, was absolutely adorable. The entire time those words that he had said in the message ringing loud and clear in her mind, what the hell?

Lance didn't even think about it that way but now that she pointed it out it was almost true. Emma was like a younger version of Kennedy. He found it easier to be with Emma though because they didn't hold grudges against each other because they didn't have the history he shared with Kennedy. He felt even more guilty now as if it was looking like he was using Emma to have the kind of relationship he wanted with Kennedy. Emma was beautiful no doubt about it but Kennedy just had some kind of effect on him that he couldn't control. She had always had his attention. He looked at her a guilty look in his eye he really didn't know what to say to her. He took a sip of the water to keep himself busy so he didn't get too nervous thinking about this.
Lance kept himself from rolling his eyes as her sarcasm reached her words. That could have been enough to spark a fight between them but he refrained considering he was pretty tired and not feeling the best. He couldn't believe there wasn't another guy out there that wouldn't sweep her up off her feet. Child or not Kennedy was a one in a million type of person. She amazed him in almost every single way.
As she brought up Ryan it was like a new life had reentered Lance. A smile fell upon his lips as he nodded, "Definitely, I wish I could have been there to see something like that." Hell he had wished he could be around his son whenever he got the chance. He loved that boy and wished he could make him his world. Though he didn't want to step on Kennedy's toes and she wasn't exactly keen on the idea to let Lance come into their sons life. He nodded again as she asked if she could check her phone, "Go ahead hopefully it's nothing bad." He added not wanting her to get bad news about their son.
He tried to watch her reactions to get the feel of what she was hearing. Though she turned her back to him and so he leaned back against the bed. He leaned over coughing a bit as he set the cup on the little desk next to the bed. As she came back and mentioned it was nothing he couldn't help but be curious. His eyebrow quirked up but said nothing as he looked at the phone. The smile reappeared as he saw Ryan and a chuckle escaped his lips, "He is without a doubt the cutest kid alive." He looked over at her their faces a bit closer then they probably should have been. She had seemed to have leaned over to show him the picture. A lump formed in his throat as their eyes met. He felt his heart race again as he froze.

Kennedy looked up at him for a minute as he said he wish he could have been there, she almost wanted to reach out and slap him but she wasn't going to do that. She could have made a comment about how he wasn't even there for his sons first birthday because he had been too busy in New York with the supposed woman he was to marry. She groaned as she looked over at him for a second, but soon cleared the thoughts from her mind as she went and checked her messages. Still as she stood back near him afterwards those words rung clear in her mind, it was almost scary since she knew the man probably remembered nothing of what he had said. Instead she found the picture and showed him hoping that she could just hide the message from him until she would leave the room, and then she would be alone to think about what he had said. The sad thing was he could tell her he loved her so many times and yet she still found fault in him and pushed him away, she could not understand but it just seemed natural for her. A relationship between Lance and Kennedy had never been easy, that much was for sure.
She laughed and nodded some as he made the comment about him being the cutest. "He does come from a good pair of genes," Even if the two had been at each others throats and fighting she would never deny that he had been super attractive. Lance Wright had been just one of those guys that no matter what he was wearing he could still look stunning, the situation never changed his personal appearance. Even wrapped up and bandages and laying on a hospital bed he looked stunning, in some odd sense of the word, and she too noticed that when she had leaned over to show him the picture she had gotten rather close to him. Her eyes came to focus on his for just a moment, her nerves getting the best of her as she quickly pulled her attention away and flipped through a few more pictures of her son that had been on her phone. Ryan had been common ground for the both of them, something that the two of them could not fight while discussing, or at least while discussing the good aspects of the little boys life.
"There is this one of him when we brought him to the beach last month. He was running around in his bright red swimming trunks and trying to build a sandcastle. The bucket would be filled with sand, the dry stuff though, and then he would turn it over and would start to pout when it didn't stay in the right shape. I kept having to show him the good wet sand to use, this pouty face was priceless though." Her son had been so cute in that photo, his big bucket hat on so the sun would stay out of his eyes, but his face with the pouty expression on it had been so cute. She was thankful she had caught it. She looked back over at Lance out the corner of her eye and noticed that with each picture she had been getting closer to him, something she honestly wasn't understanding. She did understand one thing though, she could not get that message from her mind. She wanted to say thank you to him for saying such beautiful things in a drunken state of mind, maybe that had been the only time he could be truly honest unafraid of what she would do in return, so instead of saying anything else she turned her head some to face him better. Her hand that had the phone in it dropped to the side of the bed so she could rest it there, and she slowly leant down and gave him a kiss. A quick one that she could pull away from easily but as she pulled from him something in her mind needed his lips again, so she without even thinking dropped her lips back down against his, this time not in as much of a rush to pull away. She had forgotten all about Emma right now, the message had just made her night and she wanted him to know that...just without letting him know what the message had been.

Lance laughed and nodded at the gene comment. It was true that Ryan had come from two good looking people. No matter how much they fought and how much Kennedy hated most things about him they couldn't deny their physical attraction to one another. In the simplest of things Kennedy blew other girls out of the water. His breath halted for a few minutes as she too noticed that she had gotten closer to him. Though he exhaled quickly as she backed away. He was disappointed and relieved at the same time. He loved when he got the chance to talk civilly about their child with Kennedy. He could see her light up at the slightest remembrance of their son. She was one hell of a mother to go through what she did by herself.
Lance laughed as he looked at the next picture of their son pouting, "I bet he gets away with quite a bit with that expression." He smiled over at her a lump quickly forming in his throat as she had gotten closer to him again. His breath stopped again as this time she didn't pull away and only continued to get closer, "Kenn I-...." His voice faded quickly as her lips placed on his. He was shocked at first but quickly recovered and responded to the first short kiss. Her lips pulled away from his but only for a brief moment because they came crashing back down on his again. He kissed her back with all the tension that had been built up between them. He had wanted this for so long. He reached up slowly and gingerly as he placed a hand on her cheek as the passionate kiss continued.

Kennedy had honestly expected him to push her away, holler at her about how he had a girlfriend who was just outside, or he could have even brought up what she had made clear at the party. She had wanted nothing to do with him anymore, she was done with him and all the drama, and yet what the hell was she doing? She was kissing him, not just a simple one but a kiss laced with both passion and frustration, pretty much the usual when it came to them. She knew she had been lying at the party, that all those hurtful things she had said to him were for his own benefit, but she was not going to admit that. He did not need her in his life, he was too good for her and she knew it. That didn't seem to persuade her to stop the kiss though, instead she dropped her shoulders just a tad to get more comfortable as she could feel her hand coming up to cup his that had fallen to rest on her cheek. Wow who would have thought a kiss with a man tied up in the hospital bed after a severe accident would be so amazing.
NO, it could not be amazing. She had to leave, she had to get out of there before she gave him any ideas. She had to keep that defense so he would think she didn't care about him anymore, so without hesitation she picked her head up and backed away feeling her back end strike against the wall. This caused her phone to drop on the ground, Kennedy obviously flustered right now as her cheeks were a dark shade of red, and she quickly leant down to pick her phone up shutting it and slamming it into one of her pockets. "This isn't right Lance, I uh. I have to go, yeah. I hope you feel better." She did not want to leave that hospital room but she knew she had to, she had to just march out of there and not turn around.
She offered him a short apologetic smile, she hated that she was doing this but it just wasn't fair to either of them, and with that she made her way to the door. She stopped for a second when almost outside to look back at him once more lying hopeless on the bed, her hand coming up in a short goodbye wave, and with that she turned and left the room to go back home, the place she belonged as she should have never came over there that night.
