Illuminated Rooftops (Java)

Their first kiss was in this diner, that was a long time ago. They went up to the roof that same night but now, it looked quite different now. The plastic chairs were gone and now there was a small table and two chairs. He had set the place up quite a bit for tonight. There were white party lights streamed around the top, held up in the corners of the building on leftover piping from some project he had never finished. There were a few small candle lanterns as well. Chinese food that had just arrived was at the center of the table, and on the floor next to the table was a cooler chest.
Jack was a bit on the nervous side but he didn't quite know why, this shouldn't have been different than how he had felt before but it had changed so much, he hadn't done anything like this in a long time. He was dressed in a pair of black jeans and a button down white shirt with a navy blue undershirt. The sleeves were pushed up around his elbows and the top three buttons were open. He paced a bit hoping the sign on the front door was easy to find, which it was cause it was pretty big, and he paced because he knew the second she arrived he wasn't gonna know what to say.

Ava arrived at the diner almost exactly when she'd said she would, parking her car in the parking lot, before walking to the door and seeing the sign. She laughed a little at the size of it before heading towards the staircase that lead to the roof. She'd hadn't been up there in forever and was surprised, but glad that he'd chosen that of all locations. She knew why too and that made her smile.

As she got closer to the top of the stairs she got a little nervous. Though they'd been friends for many years and had done the dating thing before, this was still a first date in many ways and first dates were always a little weird. When she finally got to the top, she saw him pacing and smiled, knowing he was nervous too. It helped knowing he was nervous. "Hey." she said and walked over to him, looking around at all the work he'd done. "I never knew you were such a romantic.." she teased, hoping to relax both of them.

"Oh i'm not, this was just left up from some old thing..to lazy to take it down." He said joking around before moving a few steps closer to her, "You look beautiful. He told her with a small smile, and meant every word of it. The nervous feeling was now leaving the pit of his stomach and he was able to relax a bit more now that she was actually here and he hadn't made a fool of himself.

Ava nodded at his joking comment. "Rrriiigghhtt.." she replied with a small laugh, closing the gap between them as they finally got about a foot apart. She smiled when he commented on how she looked. "You look nice too." she said, before explaining her outfit choice. "Decided to go shopping since Rachel's closet was empty..she has yet to do laundry." She laughed again.

He reached out and grabbed her hand gently as he stepped forward as he closed the gap between them and kissed her passionatly. He pulled back after a moment or so and smiled down at her, " Well i'm very happy that Rachel has yet to do laundry...you hungry?" He asked her.

Ava laughed again after kissing him back and nodded. "Yes...as long as its take out like we agreed and you didn't attempt to cook." she said, only kidding..but serious too if that made any sense. She didn't want to die yet.

"Oh you were serious about me not cooking..crap"He said with smirk as he put an arm around her waist and moved them over to the table. He smiled as he pulled her chair out, " I got chinese- the good kind."He said with a nod.

"There is a bad kind of chinese?" she asked with mock shock as she took a seat at the table, taking notice that he'd held her chair for her. Wow..he was really surprising her that night. "So what did you get?" she asked curiously, wondering what he'd ordered. She wasn't too picky when it came to chinese so she was good with whatever he'd gotten.

He pushed her chair in and went over to the cooler. On top if the cooler was a brown bag which he opened and pulled out a few containers as he spoke," Sesame chicken, lo mein, egg rolls, fried rice, beef with broccoli, and dumplings." He said as he then pulled out chopsticks and plastic silverware, "Also staying with the oriental theme we shall proceed to eat out of these containers with chop sticks and random plastic forks and spoons." He said with a smirk as he put them down on the table," To drink we have water,coke, water, another can coke..it's a tough decision but it's up to you." He said as he sat down and pulled out a bottle of water for himself.

She nodded as grabbed a pair of chop sticks, which she actually knew how to use very well. "How very original of you." she said with a smirk and another nod as she grabbed a container of lo mein which she loved. She listened as he listed off the various beverages. "Um..water, please." she said, agreeing with his choice and figuring she'd probably had enough caffeine that day anyways...if that had ever stopped her before. She waited, opening the container and taking a bite of some using her chopsticks. "Yep, definitely the good kind." she teased, laughing a little. "So what did you do today? Other than this that is."

He passed her a bottle of water and then grabbed the beef and broccoli and started eating. He drank some water to respond to her. "Well before I took care of all this I went for another eye exam, took scott to get a few tests done as well and then put him on a plane to Boston. They have one of the best cancer research places there." He said before taking another sip of water before eating some more of the broccoli.

"Wait, so he's in Boston?" Ava said, surprised. "How is he doing? I mean its been a while since I've seen him.." It was weird, but in the time she'd known him Scott had become like an uncle to her too..or a distant cousin or something. She dug her chopsticks into the container again, but didn't eat right away.

"He's not doing to good, they said that if it had been diagnosed earlierit could have been easier but..yeah." He said not looking up at her right away. He ate more of his food before grabbing an egg roll and taking a bite out of one.

Ava chose not to comment further, knowing that it wasn't easy for him. She put her container down and instead went for a drink of water. "How was your appointment?" she then asked, hoping the news was better than the previous news.

He finished his eggroll and then grabbed his water. He took a long drink before putting it down.He knew it was inevitable with Scott but he just couldn't picture what it was going to be like without having him around to bug and be annoyed by. " It went well, it's my last one. they said that I need to keep using the drops just incase they swell or do something that could have made the damage permenant." He said as he ate a dumpling.
