Ava had been trying her hardest to take things easy and relax a bit while she was pregnant, but anyone who knew Ava at all would know that relaxing wasn't her style. While she'd eased up her load at the paper and was spending more time at home, she found other ways to keep busy like doing errands and cleaning the house; something very unlike herself since Jack was the neat one in the relationship. But the girl had to do something and that mixed with school was keeping her quite busy...well, busy for any normal person. Ava was going insane with boredom. She thought about calling up Rachel or Becca to go baby shopping, but decided instead to visit Jack at work.
It felt like forever since it had just been the two of them since he'd started working more to save for the baby, and she knew that in a few months their couple time would be cut short. That and maybe she could get a snack while she was there. Walking inside, the door chime went and seeing Jack was busy, she made her way behind the counter and started getting herself a slice of pie.

Jack had heard the bell ring but was busy taking an order from a group of young teens that had come back from some movie they couldn't stop talking about. It had gotten rough for him lately, it seemed like he was always having to be in three places at once. If he wasnt at the diner, he was working at the pub. If it wasnt the pub it was the diner or trying his best to be a husband for the few hours he was home. He hated that he didnt get enough time lately to spend with Ava and get ready for the baby but in his was preparing himself for the new addition in his own way. He was nervous, he was nervous that something would happen to this child like it did with Adam. When Adam passed it killed him and he was lost for some time before Ava came back into his life. "Hey! I might be busy but I'm not blind, you know your not allowed back there..." He said pulling off a page from the order pad and then shoving the pad in the front side of his pants. He headed around the counter to drop the order off at the window, he leaned against the back counter with his arms folded over his chest, "What do I do if you slip and fall back here huh?" He asked with a smirk.

Ava knew it bugged him her being behind the counter; that was mostly why she did it...and also because she had the patience of a five year old when she was hungry...No, sorry that was her patience level all the time! "Oh, so you are here...Oops." she teased, licking her finger after her pie slice was nicely on it's plate. But it was missing something....? Ice cream! Without talking further, she let him follow as she made her way into the kitchen and got a carton from the freezer before scooping it on to her plate, him watching. She knew this was killing him to watch. "I have perfect balance, mister." she stated, matter-of-factly though it was hardly true, especially with pregnancy clumsiness taken into account. "And what good is being your wife if I don't get self-serve pie perks?"

"How about you scooping the ice cream then your round the corner and slip, bing bang boom, you've got a slip disc in your spine and im up to my neck in fines and health code violations not mention the insurance sky rocketing through the roof..Insurance is not one of the wife perks" He ranted. He was more worried about her and the baby then of his territory behind the counter being threatened. He shook his head, he was never able to be angry with her for to long, that along with the fact that he hadn't kissed her yet was frying his system and driving him up a wall. He let his frown turn into a lazy sort of grin as he moved closer to her and wrapped an arm around her, "you know what is a perk though, free pie." He said as he leaned and kissed her.

Ava frowned. "Why must you always think the worst?" she said, adding a final scoop to her mountain of pie and ice cream. Yum, it looked good. She just hoped she could finish it before getting sick, though the morning sickness had faded quite a bit. "Fine..you win." she said and kissed him back, ending it with a small pout. "But just because you are winning the battle, doesn't mean you are winning the war." She smirked and headed back to the counter where she sat in her usual barstool and faced him.
"So how has your day been? And your week for that matter?"

"It was fine, customers came, ate, paid, and left..nothing exciting. After I leave here im actually gonna have time to run home and shower before going to the bar...only exciting thing so far is you walking in here." He stated sarcastically. He refilled a few cups of coffee at the counter before putting it back on the burner. "What about you, do anything interesting today?" He asked her as he tiredly rested against the back counter, his arms crossed over his chest.

Ava frowned as he talked about his day, then asked about hers. "Nope, and it's driving me insane...And don't you dare ask when in fact I was sane to begin with." She added, knowing he'd probably comment on that or something like it. She grinned and ate a scoop of her pie and ice cream, which was going down at an incredibly super-human speed. She was bound to get brain freeze at that rate, but she didn't care. She could chance it. "Since when did we become so old and boring?" she asked him curiously, more rhetorically than anything. "I miss the paper.." she said with a small pout. She hated that she had had to cut back.

"I miss you." He said with the same pout as he moved closer to her and took her fork from her hand and took a bite of her pie before resting the fork on her plate. The fact that he even took a bite of pie was showing he was desperatly hungry. He had been finding less and less time to eat and had been getting a bit thiner. The only time in recent days he had been able to eat were the early mornings when he got up or between going over to the pub from the diner. He moved back to where he was resting against the back counter as he chewed, "We're to young to be this boring, we need to do something like close the diner for a week and go somewhere." He suggested

Ava was surprised when he said he missed her, but nonetheless agreed. "I miss you too.." she replied, looking around the diner and not even noticing him taking some of her pie. She sighed, seeing all the people looking so happy and entertained. She hated this 'taking it easy' business. Maybe she would coax the guys at the Orchid to letting her help out...and make them promise not to tell Jack at the same time.
When he suggested closing the diner she was again surprised. "Can you even do that?" she asked, wondering if the diner could even operate without him. He was there all the time.

"Well I mean I could try, not saying I can do it for a whole week ya know..but I don't see why not." He told her as he went over the idea in his head. He'd have to close it for a few days, but after that people would be angry and he would need to find someone who could cover for him when he wasn't there. He had a problem with hiring new people, besides himself only two other people were on the payroll. His uncle did it with less and still had the place running fine, but then again that was his life. His uncle was a single guy who only had the diner to worry about before Jack came along. Jack was married with a kid on the way and another buisness that he was responsible for. Maybe it was to much, the stress was getting to him and it had become increasingly harder to function on the three hours of sleep he could get in an average night.

Yes, Ava had seen the stress getting to her husband, but she didn't know what to do about it. She hoped he was serious about taking some time off since he needed it and in all honesty, it would probably be the longest they'd been together since they were married. They'd never really had a honeymoon and just jumped into life after eloping, which at the time hadn't been a problem, but it was only a few more months with just the two of them. She nodded, getting excited about the idea and her mood perking up a bit. "So what would we do?" she asked, thinking herself.

He sighed and ran a hand through his hair as he looked out the front window of the diner with a content smile, "Sleep for hours and hours, definitly get in some us time before its to late, sleep some more...lets drive somewhere though, is there anywhere you wanna go before its to late to do any real traveling?" he asked her.

"I like sleep." Ava agreed with a nod, finishing off her pie. Yes, she was quite odd...She liked to keep busy, but she also liked sleep..loved sleep, especially sleeping in. She'd always been that way. She'd never really been one of those people that liked all-nighters and going out late. She was a homebody. She thought about his next question. "Hmm....we could just drive and see where we end up?" she suggested, unsurely. She'd never thought about going away. She never really did go away. He was the one that did that..or he had been.

"Or we could drive to key west for a few days, get a place right on the beach and just sleep." He suggested the idea, the idea that sounded almost perfect to him. He was knocked from his day dream as a customers order came up, he brought the hot plates to the table and served them before walking back to the counter and taking a seat on an empty stool at the end.

Ava was about to reply when she saw an order come and knew he would need to take off. Sigh. He didn't seem to happy about it either, but hey, he was at work. They had to expect that sooner or later their conversation would be interrupted. She watched as he served the table, then came back over. Without thinking about it, she rounded the corner so she she was close to him and facing him then she took his hands and pulled him over. "You work too hard." she told him, which almost sounded ironic as she said it. Almost like something he should be telling her.
