One More Day And The Impatient Waiting Period

The Orchid was one day from opening, and although there was nothing more for Jack to do, he couldn't step outside the door. The windows and door was open, almost exposing the whole bar to the street in front of it. Everything was perfect looking, the dark wood went great with the dark metal and leather idea. There was and Island bar now and the dance area in the back. It was amazing that once they rebuilt the back wall up they found it could be turned into a office/storage area. Jack sat at one of the tables,looking out at the water. It was late but there were still people on the Pier that were looking into to see what was opening. Jack was exhausted, and the heat wasn't helping either. It had only been two weeks ago it was cold and now, because of global warming or something, it was almost 78 degrees out. His head ached slightly as he kept looking down at his watch counting the hours till tomorrow approached. His eyes were tired and for a healthy guy like Jack, he had become a coffee junkie in a mere day.

"I told you we'd get it done in time.." Ava said, walking outside with a bag of construction garbage to where Jack was, with a grin. She was honestly quite proud of the both of them..and excited to open. Nervous too. Was the Orchid going to be a success story? She hoped so. "God, why is it so hot?" she asked leaning against the building and sighing as she put the bag down too.

He took a sip of his coffee and then looked down into it's murky dark contents, "Its that damn global warming." He said with a smirk. He leaned on his elbows, "I knew we would get it done..eventually" He said, he had been saying that they wouldn't be ready in time and that they would loose all their money and the only way to get it back would be to burn it down and claim insurance on it.

"Well then..global warming sucks." Ava said simply and laughed. "How can you drink warm coffee when it's so hot? They invented ice caps for a reason, you know."

[jack edward riley]

" Yeah but the heat burns my tongue, which makes my eyes water, which keeps my eyes open" He said explain his screwed up reasoning," It's the only thing that's keeping me from doing the sleeping thing" He added.

[ava louise riley]

"You know that sleeping is okay right? I mean you should sleep. I for one plan to have a long, long sleep tonight to make up for my lack of sleep the past few months.." She planned on it, but with her nerves doubted she'd get the long sleep she planned. She sipped her ice cap, which she'd left outside a bit earlier on a work break.

" I haven't been sleeping that good ther, I actually spent the night in the back last night. I close my eyes and just start making lists of what we need for the place and from there it goes to some random song and then that wont leave my head..When this is all over, I'm sleeping for a week straight" He told her finishing off his coffee.

"Over? And when would that be?" Ava teased since she and him both knew that opening and running the Orchid was a long-term commitment. She grinned again. "It'll be nice when it opens though. Can you believe people are already reviewing it and stuff?"

[jack edward riley]

"I mean when the opening is done and all the worry has left my system." He said looking at the coffee cup wishing he had more." I actually think theres a message on the machine from someone from some magazine who wanted something." He said no entirely remembering.

"Really? That's pretty cool. I mean, don't journalist normally care more about these things when they are in places of more than 200, 000 people?" She laughed a little. "Oh well, its a good sign, right?"

Sam had been on an errand to get some more necessarry things and he had just gotten back to the bar. He walked in and dropped the things where they were supposed to go and walked back outside. "Hey." He said simply. Most of the times Sam wasn't a guy of many words and there were people who actually apreciated that.

It hadn't taken too long for Ava to realize/get mad at Jack for enlisting Sam's help, but over the last few months she'd grown to accept it. He was a good worker and a valuable piece of help. "Hey." she replied.

"Is there anything else that needs to be done?" He asked trying to be as much help as he could. He had been offered a chance here and he had to prove that he deserved it. It could be the start of something new for Sam, a new life that might not be as miserable as his life now.

"Nope, we've decided to just break." Ava said with a grin. "It's way too hot to be working hard."

"Oh yeah, it must be a gazillion degrees..." Sam nodded as he slid down the wall to sit on the floor. He had hoped the wall to have a cooling effect, but it had been in the sun all day so it was pretty hot.
