The sun was shining bright today so Steph dug into her bag and grabbed a pair of dark sunglasses putting them on to block most of the sun as she looked over at Johnny with a grin. "I was having a hard time thinking of a place to bring you, i'll admit to that one, but all of a sudden it was as though a light bulb went off in my head and I just had to bring you here first." She sounded excited, she wasn't used to showing people around, but this was definitely something she'd enjoy. "Come on, come on, it's right up here." She said, her step picking up as the pain in her knee went to just a numbing feeling, something she was used to and could deal with.
The two of them were walking when she quickly cut to the other side of him grabbing hold of his arm one more time to tug him gently towards an alley. "We're taking a shortcut." She grinned letting go again once they were down the alley. You could hear the wheels grinding against the pavement and the cheers of people all around, and when they reached the end of the alley there was a small hole where three board had been taken out of a 6-foot high fence. "Come on, squeeze through." She said quickly sliding herself through the hole that led right into the back of the skatepark. "It'll cost you getting in the main gate, think around two bucks or something, so some kids got smart and just pulled out the boards. Damn park doesn't even realize it and people are getting in for free all the damn time." She turned to look at his face wanting to see the reaction she'd gotten out of him but quickly turned back to watch the men doing the tricks on their boards infront of them.

"This is shaping up to be the most interesting day I've had in Point Pleasant so far," Johnny grinned as Steph latched onto his arm and tugged him out the door of the fitness center. Her enthusiasm was contagious, and Johnny couldn't wipe the grin off his face. His mind wandered for a moment as he tried to think of where they could possibly be going? Some sort of food establishment? The movies? The beach? Steph wasn't about to spill the beans, so Johnny kept his mouth shut as she led him down the street. He was slightly disheartened when she removed her grip from his arm.
"You call this a short cut?" Johnny laughed as she lead him through an alley. His curiosity grew, in a paradise like the Point, Johnny couldn't fathom what was worth seeing down a dingy alleyway. "Where exactly are you taking me? To your secret drug co-op? Maybe to the meeting place of some sort of cult?" He tossed his skateboard through the hole before he attempted to squeeze through the hole. A large smile spread across Johnny's face. The skatepark. Skating had always been sort of a solace for Johnny in the summer months when the snow disappeared. It was nothing like snowboarding, snowboarding is an adrenaline sport while skating is more laid back.
"No way!" Johnny exclaimed, "I didn't even know this place existed. I've already gotten shit for skating at the pier, I've totally been missing out."

She had to laugh at the things he was coming up with during their trip down the alley, but decided it'd be best to just stay quiet and let him think what he wanted until they had reached their destination. Once there though she watched his face just light up as he looked around and told her about the incident on the pier. "This place is one of the busiest around, sure you can skate down mainstreet and everything, but the amount of time and money put into this place just makes it all the better. There are demos and competitions and everything, like a paradise for the skating community. Come on," She said grabbing ahold of his free hand leading him around towards the front of the park so he could see all that the place had to offer.
When they reached an area that had a few benches she stopped and hopped up on one, her feet sitting on the actual seat of the bench while her butt sat up where your back would rest. It made her feel taller and she wanted to stand out from all the girls that sat pretty on the bench like they should with their hair and make-up done and their legs crossed trying to look as gorgeous as possible. She pointed down at the board that was in his hand and gave him a quick grin. "So you going to show me what you got, or afraid you'll embarass yourself?"

"Hmm," Johnny put his fist to his mouth in an over-dramatized act of hesitation. Admittedly he was a bit rusty, but after checking out the skill level of the other guys around the park Johnny started to feel a little bit more comfortable. There were no pros around, obviously, but some of them were good, really good. Though he knew his skating wasn't as great as his snowboarding, he was pretty confident he could hold his own around these guys. He set his skateboard on the ground in front of him and placed his right foot on top of it.
"Don't expect too much, I mean, I'm a little rusty. It's winter back home and I haven't skated in months... plus the humidity of this place really throws me off..." He was playing around, and shot his signature boyish grin at Steph to let her know. "But, you know, if you really want me to..."

"Do you always have so many excuses?" She asked grinning over at him wanting to laugh at the amount of dramatics this boy had had. "You should think about having a career in theatre, you'd be damn good at it I bet. Now get out there and show me something," She said pointing out to the park where the other men and a few women were skating around. She just nodded at his last comment waving her hand to get him to go off and do something. "Oh, and don't worry if you suck or anything, I won't pick on you too much." She teased right back at him, a playful wink right afterwards letting him know she was only joking and wouldn't laugh at him at all.
To be honest he could completely suck and she still couldn't pick on him, she'd gotten on a skateboard before and fallen right off on the slightest of hills, so for him being able to just stand on one without falling made him better than her already. She had a feeling he could hold his own amongst the other skaters in the park, and was sure being able to snowboard had helped somewhat. They were pretty much the same sport it looked like except one was on the snow while another was on the pavement right? Steph didn't have a clue but she was ready to see just what this man in front of her could do.

"A career in theatre? Actually, that's my new thing," Johnny said sarcastically, "And this great mug is my best asset, so if I smash it into the pavement the guilt is on you!"
With a large smile, Johnny dropped into the half pipe. It felt so good to be skating again, it reminded him of summertime in Kelowna, showing off to the cute Asian tourist girls who seemed to flock there by the hundreds on a vacation to the mountains. He glanced over at Steph as he rolled up the other side and turned around, and felt right at home. He took a few runs to pick up a little speed, but once his speed was good and his confidence was up, Johnny attempted a simple kick flip and landed it.
"Haha!" Johnny laughed excitedly, "I still got it!"

"Oh hush," She said laughing at the boy standing infront of her. "Just get out there already, stop stalling." She rolled her eyes at the joke he'd made about his face, he really knew how to ham it up which is something she loved, it always seemed like she had a better time with someone else who was laid-back like her. She brought her feet closer together to make sitting the way she was more comfortable, and soon watched him as he turned to leave her.
While he was picking up speed Steph couldn't help but look around at the other girls that were sitting there watching the skaters, she thought they were pathetic dressing up just to come and sit looking pretty while the man they liked didn't even show them any attention, but she wasn't going to give any of them much thought as she brought her attention back to Johnny who was about to attempt a pretty simple trick.
Steph decided she'd be dramatic too so she jumped off of the bench she was on and ran to him, though he wasn't far away at all, and with a look of utter shock she placed her hand on his chin turning his head side to side as though trying to find a blemish. She finally pulled away and clapped her hands together to congratulate him as she couldn't help but start laughing. "And your face is intact! And here I thought i'd have to live with ruining your face for the rest of my life."

"You got lucky," Johnny playful stuck his tongue out at Steph. The place was perfect, it made Johnny felt like he was 12 years old without a care in the world. It was places like this where he belonged, in the park or on the slope, not stuck in the gym doing some boring routine. "Wait, wait, wait! You ain't seen nothing yet!" Excitedly, Johnny scooped up his skateboard and ran back up to the top of the half pipe. "I dedicate this one to you, Steph." He laughed as he dropped in, and grinding his board along the top of the opposite side.

"i'm used to getting lucky," She said before realizing that that had sounded like some sick dirty joke, and quickly her cheeks flushed pink as she stepped back a few steps to bend at the knees trying not to laugh. Oh her dirty mind, he might not even had taken it the way she had said it, and she definitely didn't want him to think that was the sort of thing she was talking about. "I mean on the field, you know with someone charging at you, i'm lucky to not break a leg or something like that." There, she made it better by explaining it to him, so hopefully he didn't take that comment too dirty.
She could see his confidence pick up and stepped back up to where she had been sitting again and sat back down, the girls around glancing at her before mumbling something to one another, but Steph was used to the smart ass comments here and there so it didn't bother her too much. She just wished she knew what they were saying about her right now, but from the looks of it they were more than likely picking or saying something bad. Steph grinned knowing that she'd done something, whatever that was, to upset those girls sitting down. She looked back at Johnny as he dedicated his next move to her. She was glad she had her sunglasses on or she wouldn't have seen it at all, but when he'd started she'd seen that he had executed the perfect grind. Steph didn't want to say anything to him until he was done, she was afraid she make him lose concentration and he'd fall, so instead she clapped letting him know she'd watched and liked what she had saw.

"I'm sure you are 'used to getting lucky'." Johnny called out playfully from the half pipe. He hadn't really noticed the female spectators, which was unusual for Johnny, until he realized they seemed slightly put off by Steph and were undoubtably quietly insulting her. Johnny was familiar with this 'skatepark hoes', and he and his friends would refer to them back home. They were the girls that would tease their hair, load on eyeliner and come to the skatepark to scope out boys. Usually the type was loud, annoying, and without an ounce of good looks. He suddenly felt guilty that he was forcing Steph to sit there among them while he boarded. Girls like that had a notoriously acid tongue and Johnny felt bad that Steph was being forced to put up with them.
He skated over to where Steph was stationed. "Sorry about them," he gestured towards the pack. The sight of them was kind of pathetic; a one or two had been texting on their cellphone without a break since Johnny and Steph had arrived, another was re-applying her lip gloss. "You know, they're just not used to having such a pretty girl on their 'turf'. Wanna try?" Johnny gestured to his board.

Steph rolled her eyes at the quick comeback she'd had, what a smart ass little joker that boy could be, but she enjoyed his company so she didn't mind. "Them, what?" She asked looking over at the girls that he'd been talking about. "Oh, you think they bother me? Come on, i'm not shallow enough to get sucked into their crap." She knew that she was better than them, she didn't have to hang out at a park to attract the wrong crowd, so anything they could say would do nothing to hurt her. She grinned when he'd called her pretty though and stood up from her seat glancing at the girls quick before bringing her attention back to them. "Well aren't you the smooth talker, Mr. Hawkins." She enjoyed calling him that for some reason, it made her want to laugh everytime she'd heard it.
When he asked if she wanted to try it she quickly shook her head not needing any time to think about it. "Are you crazy?" She asked laughing still shaking her head. "Did you not hear me earlier when I said I couldn't even go down the smallest of hills? Girls don't skate here, girls sit there and look pretty watching the men skate." She said that as she motioned back towards her seat, though she wasn't there to just look pretty but more because she wanted to give him a good tour. "I'd end up bruising my ass quicker than hell," that was probably true, Steph had a hard time standing on a board let alone actually being able to make it move. "Would you really want a bruised bottom held over your head?"

"Come on, I thought you were a big time athlete! The all-star on the college soccer team!" Johnny poked her lightly in the ribs to pester her. "No fear, right? Besides, if I let you sit here people might start to think you're one of them. Next thing you know you'll be backcombing your hair and wearing skate shoes with skirts. If you bruise your ass, I'll nurse you back to health, scouts honour!" Johnny held up two fingers in a mock salute. The park was in perfect condition for a first timer; it wasn't too crowded, there was enough open space to learn how to keep balance and the ground was smooth so any falls would most likely lead to bruises as opposed to scrapes.
"Please?" Johnny put on a pout.

"Hey!" she shot back gasping practically at when he'd been saying about her being a 'big time athlete', "I am on the field, does this look like a field? Does it look like i'm wearing my cleats and uniform?" She shook her head laughing at the lengths he was trying to go to get her on that skateboard. When it came to the comment about nursing her back to health she had to quirk the brow in speculation. "And how would you do that?" She could only imagine him walking around behind her holding an ice-pack against her bottom until it'd healed, the thought was amusing and she couldn't help but chuckle again. She seemed to be laughing a lot around him, that was a change from the normal serious people she'd usually talked to.
"Aww, poor baby." She said as she watched the pout, the guy sure did know how to use his features towards his favor. "I will try it this once, just for you, but don't be telling everyone around Davis' ass can't stay off the pavement, got it?" She asked with a quick smirk, Davis being the way a lot of people knew her around campus because that's all they'd read on her jersey while in a game. She let out an over-dramatic sigh as she stepped down to where him and the board were standing, but of course had to flash a quick grin and a small wave to the girls that were just sitting there watching the skaters. It was as though to say 'ha ha i've been picked and you haven't', Steph just loved to piss those types of girls off.
"You owe me some ice cream after this, buddy." She said waiting for him to take the lead and show her what to do. "A double scoop, mint chocolate chip with rainbow sprinkles. Yup, I can taste the calories going to my thighs." This was her being nervous, spouting off random things not wanting to do the task that was set forward for her.

"Now look who's the one with all the excuses," Johnny laughed as he set his board down on the pavement in front of Steph. "Don't worry, you'll be fine. I'll make sure you won't fall, and if you do, I'll buy you all the ice cream you want." He extended his hand towards her, offering her a little stability as she stepped on to the board.
"Okay so the key too keeping your balances is in the hips. Try to keep them steady. Now, go ahead, give yourself a push." Johnny couldn't wipe the smile off his face, and kept hold of Steph's hand.

"I'm going to hold you to that," She said pointing at him before taking his hand and stepping onto his board, her first foot moving it just a little not ready to pull her second up yet. When she found where to put the first one so she could lift the second without the board moving she quickly brought both feet up on the board and grabbed a tighter hold on his hand. "Okay i'm on, that's about all i'm going to do." She said not wanting to move in fear of falling, pavement hurt a lot more than grass and you could get a nice spill from a motionless skateboard.
Keep the hips steady? She couldn't move them, they were glued so she didn't move any other part of her leg, so quickly she pulled his hand closer so he had to step closer to her, and after grabbing ahold of his other hand she positioned them on her waist. "There, now i'm stable." She said with a slight smirk, she didn't really need to do that but her mind was definitely into pissing those girls off all she could, and this would definitely do something to them but she wasn't going to look back at what they were doing. "I will hurt you if you let go, Johnny!" she said moving her hands so they rest on his shoulders, yup with him holding her like that even if the board kicked out from her feet he'd be able to safely bring her to the ground. "See, i'm not entirely dumb about this sport."
