Rachel sat in her living room on the couch, watching re-runs of Family Guy, as she waited for Lance to come over. She was wearing black yoga pants and a purple and black stripped t-shirt. She had her hair down and was twirling the ends a bit, as she often did. She was really nervous about the wedding and wanted to talk to Lance about it. She wondered if he was also nervous. She flipped the channel at a commercial and sighed. Where was he?

Lance was dreading this moment for a week now. He sighed as he stepped out of his car in flip flops, cargo shorts, and a plain white undershirt. Lance slipped his phone into his pocket as he walked up to her front door. Lance pressed the heels of his palm against his eyes and then slowly knocked on the door. He took a step back and put his hands in his pockets as he looked around. He wanted to turn and run and not have to deal with this right now. He didn't want to break her heart, does this mean he still loved her? He was so sure he needed to end this if he wanted to get back into Kennedy's life. Though he couldn't see her cry or angry at him and he knew it was about to happen. "How can I be such a jackass...." He said quietly before hearing footsteps come towards the door. He quickly shut his mouth and waited to see the beautiful girl open her door.

Rachel smiled when she heard a knock at the door. She got off the couch and ran to the door to answer it. She quickly checked her reflection in the mirror before opening the door. She smiled when she saw Lance. "Hey hun" she said opening the door wider to let him in. She smiled and gave him a hug before he could say anything. She was really happy to see him, as she always was.

Lance was hesitant about wrapping his arms around her but he did it anyways. He squeezed his eyes shut as it pained him to know what he had to do. Lance wasn't sure if he could do it. Why was he ending this with her? It's not like Kennedy would ever want him back in her life as more than the father of their son. Lance was now confusing himself as to what he was going to do. He didn't know if he should end it yet. Not without speaking to Kennedy anyways. He kissed her forehead lightly as he slowly removed his arms from her. "Hey beautiful..." He said quietly with a raspy voice. He hadn't had the best of sleep lately. So his throat was aching and his voice had been raspy for the past few days.

"Hey.." Rach replied, looking at him.. he looked different, tired or something. "You okay?" she asked as she closed the door behind him and led the way into the living room. She sat back down on the couch and crossed her legs as she waited for him to sit down. She hoped everything was okay with him, she knew he had planned on seeing his brother and Rachel wanted to know how that had gone. She patted the couch next to her and smiled at him.

Lance nodded, "Yeah just a bit stressed I guess." He said shrugging his shoulders as he followed Rachel into the living room. He walked over to the couch and took a seat next to her leaning back attempting to get relaxed. He couldn't believe what he was about to do to Rachel. He wanted to prolong it as much as possible. Yeah Lance was being a coward, but he had already hurt this girl and this time he would have to see her and tell her directly from his mouth instead of indirectly like last time. He leaned back against the couch and didn't know what to say so he drummed his fingers against his legs as he waited for something to be said.

"Okay.. anything you want to talk about?" Rach asked as she looked at him with a concerned expression on her face. She could always tell when something was up with him, and this time was no different. He looked like he had something on his mind and she wanted him to tell her. She picked up the remote and turned off the TV before she turned her attention back towards Lance. She smiled at him as she waited for him to talk.

Lance knew there was no easy way to say this. This was something huge not just something he could easily throw into their conversation. He was dumb for even thinking he could pretend he was okay around Rachel because she could read him like a book she had read a million times. He sighed as he leaned back and shut his eyes. He looked over at her and saw a smile come to her lips. His heart clenched he couldn't do this. He stood up shaking his head and said quietly, "I can't do this....I can't." He said walking a little bit further away from Rachel. He took a seat on one of the wooden steps of the stairs and put his head in his hands. Lance was nothing but a big coward and he wasn't sure it should be this hard if he didn't still have feelings for Rachel.

Rach listened to Lance talk and then watched him walk away with a confused look on her face. She stood up slowly and followed him, sitting next to him on the stairs. "What do you mean.. you can't.. do this?" she asked slowly and carefully. She hoped he meant something like he couldn't.. do the dishes.. not what she thought he meant. She prayed it was something else, not about the two of them. She looked over at him and frowned. "Please.. talk" she said softly.

Lance couldn't bring his eyes to hers. He stared down at the floor beneath him, "I can't....break your heart again." He said quietly as he lifted his head to look straight ahead. He didn't want to see her reaction after he ended things with her. He slowly found some strength inside of him. He knew he had to do this. He couldn't go on living a lie the rest of his life. It wasn't good for him or Rachel. "...but I have too. Rachel I can't keep going leading you on." He said quietly as he finally looked over at her fearing her reaction.

Rachel looked at him and understood instantly what he was saying. He was breaking it off.. the wedding, marriage.. relationship. She felt her heart break in half and she stood up angrily as she paced the hallway. "Why are you doing this?" she demanded, feeling like this had come out of nowhere. "I don't get it!" she yelled as she keept pacing. Just a few nights ago they had been perfectly in love at the ball, what had happened? She looked at Lance and felt her eyes getting wet.

Lance chewed on the inside of his mouth as he looked down as she got angry. He had expected every bit of this but now that it was actually happening he hated himself. "I'm sorry Rachel..." He said quietly raising his eyes up to see hers. He regretted that immediately because he saw her eyes and the anger and sadness that was in them. He slowly stood up and rubbed his hands on his shorts as he looked at her. "Things changed..." He said not really having a true answer for why this was happening. He shrugged his shoulders just as clueless as she was. The chemistry between them had just changed ever since they had come back from New York. He couldn't put his finger on it but things had changed and he wasn't in love with her anymore.

Rachel frowned. "That's all you can say.. things changed? Great answer Lance! Now i have to cancel our whole wedding.. thanks to you. I can't believe this.. is this because of that bitch Kennedy? Cause seriously, that'd be pathetic" she said with a disgusted look on her face. She had a bunch of mixed feelings going through her right now.. anger, confusion, sadness and rage were just a few of them. After all this time he was just ending their relationship.. after all they'd been through together. How could she have not seen this coming? "What about that whole.. i'll never hurt you again promise you made to me when i took you back after the whole cheating and getting another girl pregnant thing.. i guess that was just a bunch of crap.. huh!?" she blurted out as she stopped pacing and glared at him. Tears were now visibly running down her face.

"I don't know what to say to you Rach. Things changed between us or at least they have for me." He got angry when she called Kennedy a bitch but he wasn't going to say anything about that because he wasn't going to bring Kennedy into this. "No, it's not because of Kennedy Rachel. I just...i'm not in love with you anymore..." He said quietly looking over at her. He knew that would probably be hard to hear. He regretted saying that but he had to say it. Then he got made when she accused him of cheating. He clenched his fists together and raised his voice a bit losing his calm, "I never cheated on you Rachel after that promise. That is something I vowed to never break and I didn't." He said when she had questioned his morality. "I'm sorry I have to hurt you Rachel I didn't expect this to happen it's not like I knew it and just kept quiet about it. Things change." He said with an air of finality falling around his last sentence.

Rachel listened to his words and frowned at the end. "I didn't mean you cheated now.. i meant back then.. but never mind, that's not the point.. I just can't believe this.. it's all so sudden" she said sitting down to calm herself. She couldn't believe this was happening. She had no clue that Lance had been thinking of breaking it off, there was no indication at all in her mind. She looked at him and asked "Why aren't you in love with me anymore? Is it something i did or said?".
