Rachel was standing in front of her full length mirror, inspecting herself while she waited for Ava to come over. They were going out for girls night, likely to a club, they hadn't finalized the plans. She was wearing one of favourite little black dresses, that showed just enough leg and cleavage but not too much. She ran her brush through her freshly flat ironed hair one more time and smoothed her dress down. Stella was staying with her parents for the night, so she didn't have to worry about coming home at a specific time for a babysitter.Rachel checked her watch 9:45, Ava was due in 15 minutes. She sat down in front of her makeup vanity and applied a fresh coat of red lip stick. She was really looking forward to their night, she hadn't had a girls night out with Ava.. or any girlfriend of hers in a while. She hadn't even had any time with Ava alone yet. Since she had come back to Pleasant, the few times she had seen her, Chris and Stella had also been there. She was looking forward to a night out with her best friend. She couldn't wait to tell her about the last couple of dates she had been on, some good, some bad, and some just plain ugly.

The last few days for Ava had been, well they'd be different. With Jack appearing in Pleasant and now, trying to share time with him of Chris, she had yet to tell Rachel what was going on. In truth,s he really didn't know what was going on. Yes, she'd been wrong about the affair, but there was still a lot left unsaid between the two and a lot of truth issues. She needed time to think before it came up in a conversation with her best friend. At least Jack had been there for her when she'd told him about Girl's Night and asked if he'd watch Chris at the diner apartment that night. It was the first overnight the two would have since the split, but Ava knew Jack was a great dad and so there was no worry about leaving him there.
She changed her clothes and dropped Chris off and after another semi-awkward conversation with Jack, was off to meet Rachel at her house. She was on time, at least so she thought as she rang the bell and waited, shivering in the thin black wool coat she wore over her outfit. "Rachel!" She called moving around for warmth outside the condo before remembering there was a spare key. "That's it Miles. I'm using the key." She said in a normal voice as she got the spare from it's hiding place and went inside, shutting the door behind her and taking off her coat. That was better.
She looked down at her outfit hoping it was alright as she adjusted a bit. 'Rachel?" She called again, as she looked around for her friend.

Rachel heard Ava's voice through her closed bedroom door. She was sitting on her bed with her laptop in her lap, sending a few work emails. She shut her laptop and opened her door, walking over to the front door. She smiled when she saw Ava. "Hey babe. Did you ring the bell? Guess I didn't hear it." she said with a shrug as she leaned over to hug her friend.
She pulled back and looked at Ava, inspecting her out. She looked nice.. Rachel suddenly felt a bit overdressed in her own outfit. She was wearing 5" black stiletto's as well. At 5"1 she was a shorty and lived in heels, especially with being in the fashion world. Since she had modeled as a child, she got used to wearing heels at a young age, and now as an adult found them to be strangely comfortable.
Rachel walked into the large kitchen and opened the fridge, pulling out some vodka from the freezer. "I was going to make my famous chocolate vodka martini's.. want one?." she asked looking back over at Ava with a smile.

It really didn't surprise Ava much that Rachel hadn't heard the bell since the girl was usually pretty busy and it wouldn't have surprised Ava to hear she'd been working when she'd arrived. Both girls were similar in that aspect of things. Jack often had to pull Ava away from her writing to get her to relax. That was the news though, never a dull moment and she hated that she loved every minute of it... okay, so she didn't hate it that much, but still.
She hugged Rachel back. "It's okay. I remembered where you said you'd put the key." she replied with a smile, noting Rachel was a bit more dressed up, but then that was Rachel. Besides, it wasn't like they'd even decided on where to go yet and Ava was pretty sure the last time she'd stepped inside a club she'd be in a pair of jeans. A great top, but jeans. This was a vast improvement.
She placed her jacket on a nearby table and followed Rachel into the kitchen, which was definitely much larger than her own. It wasn't anything she wasn't used to since they one she'd grown up with had been similar, but she'd settled for less as she got older since neither she or Jack exactly cooked a lot. They were getting there, but take out was definitely used to the fullest. "Sure." Ava said, pulling out a bar stool and taking a seat. Deciding to take the conversation and questions away from her, she started. "So what have you been up to?" she asked her curiously.

Rachel took out her martini shaker, and got to work making the martini's. She poured one for Ava and one for her and took the two glasses over to the couch and sat down, putting one on a coaster beside her for Ava. She waited until her friend joined her and then turned to her and smiled.
"Well.. let's see.. work, work, Stella, more work.. oh and then work again".. "I've also been on a few dates since I last saw you, some good, some really good.. and some really bad.." she said with a small laugh. She still had the vision of the guy she had met up with for dinner who had showed up in sweatpants and a t-shit that said 'I love Star Trek', When they met, he had kissed her hand and bowed.

Ava followed Rachel to the couch, knowing that now the talking part of the night would officially began. It wasn't that she didn't trust Rachel or want her to know Jack was around, but she was planning on staying tight lipped, which probably meant not drinking too too much. She'd never had a chocolate martini though and despite the fact they were really her thing, she decided to try it and see. It couldn't hurt, right?
Ava laughed too as she mentioned all the working. "Good is good." she said with a confident smile and a nod, interested. Hey, the more they talked about Rachel the less they talked about her and aside from Jack, there wasn't really much to tell. "Any second dates in the works?" she asked curiously as she took a drink from her glass. It was different, not bad but not what she was used to and she doubted it would sell at The Orchid since they were mostly a beer and hard liquor crowd, but nothing too special.
[sorry no Tate. Had a needle stuck in my eye at the docs today and now its so sore its not funny.. and on top of that, I have to be up at 4am.]
