PERSONALITY
For those closest to her, it has always been apparent that Aurelia is an outgoing introvert. She is skilled in social situations, but becomes tired quickly, retreating to a place of solitude. Aurelia exudes an air of mystery in this sense, that she can engage others in lively conversation and easily slip away, leaving others to only question where she went after she was already gone. This habit only adds to her mysterious persona, though she hardly realizes she does it. Aurelia can be quite absorbed in her thoughts; while introspective and thoughtful, it often leads to overthinking and insecurity. Fortunately, or maybe conveniently for her, Aurelia has developed the skill of facially feigning interest while her mind is elsewhere. On the positive side, Aurelia has always found it easy to connect to things she feels passionate about, even if most people aren’t around to see it.
Since she can remember, her mother and caretakers have always emphasized the importance of being aware of how she presents and appears to others. While this helps Aurelia to carefully control how others see her, it also fuels much of her insecurity and anxiety. She struggles with body image and a rather disordered relationship with food (from a young age), but very rarely talks about those things with anyone. Instead, she tries to channel her anxieties into creative outlets. such as party planning (and hosting parties, even if she does disappear often), painting, and dancing. Aurelia can be quite passionate about her creative pursuits, but will often burn out quickly when her energy levels diminish. Paired with perfectionistic tendencies, this can be incredibly frustrating for her, especially because it often ends in planned or partially completed projects. Sometimes, though, Aurelia’s determination is enough to complete a project true to her experience.
Friendships are incredibly important to Aurelia. She is naturally very compassionate, loyal, and insightful when she finds people she feels close to. Aurelia thrives in friendship roles but defaults to an elusive mystery when a connection isn’t established. She tends to have two categories when it comes to this: first, very shallow relationships or acquaintances in which she just says hello or sits next to in class; second, close friendships in which she invests a lot of her time to develop and strengthen, regardless of how others view the person, as long as she has established trust. Her most important friendships are rooted in emotional and intellectual connections; Aurelia seeks out people who share common interests, passions, and ideologies in order to form a very deep connection. It is especially powerful for her to find someone she can explore the world with, both the physical and philosophical world. These friendships are very strong, allowing both to be extremely loyal, comfortable, and honest. Nearly all interactions tire Aurelia, except for these, in which it takes much more time for her to become tired.
Aurelia is naturally quite perceptive and adept to reading people. When comfortable with people or passionate about the subject, Aurelia is very eloquent and persuasive, which can sometimes cause influence over others, which she often shies away from. This influence can often draw others toward her, whether the intent is friendship or insight. Aurelia can recognize this in most instances and makes it even more difficult for her to open up to others. If she can sense authenticity, compassion, and mutual motives and ideals, Aurelia will work to develop and deepen the friendship, likely to last a very long time. Because friendship is so important to her, Aurelia channels much of her energy into these relationships and they become a large part of how she sees herself. This reluctance to trust and develop relationships can come off as reticent or unfriendly, which is unfortunate and stressful for Aurelia, because she tries her best to appear approachable.

HISTORY
Aurelia was born in New Jersey to moderately wealthy parents and a relatively small family. She grew up in a nice suburb not far from Pleasant Point, but made frequent trips to New York, where her mother’s family is from. She was raised by an older cousin who often functioned as an older sister/nanny. From a young age Aurelia was encouraged to pursue the arts, so she joined dance and learned to play the piano. Eventually, her parents encouraged her to learn how to play the flute, as well, which didn’t interest Aurelia in the least and often resulted in Aurelia daydreaming or drawing in a sketch pad instead of practicing. Thankfully, Aurelia’s cousin was sympathetic and did not punish her for her lack of focus, most likely because Aurelia excelled in academics. She was always drawn to intellectual pursuits, exploring and learning about new things each chance she got, given that it sparks her interest. Gradually, Aurelia’s grades evened out to only slightly above average as she learned to assimilate into her family’s affinity for socializing.
Born into a family that has always been drawn into the center of the social scene, Aurelia had to teach herself how to abide by the social rules her family seemed to naturally know. Aurelia has always been an introvert in the truest and deepest sense; she is passionate and tries to reserve her words for meaningful conversation because socialization has the potential to thoroughly drain all of her energy. Aurelia has slowly learned to balance her family’s social initiative and her own comfort level, though she often plays hostess and disappears, which has gotten her into trouble by her mother. Despite the lack of connection between Aurelia and her parents, she was never really punished for not measuring up to expectations (although she inherited her perfectionistic tendencies from her mother), but she often was made to feel inadequate, as though the family needed something from her that she wasn’t giving. From a young age, Aurelia has grown up in her mother’s parties, surrounded by strangers, feeling as though she was being watched and compared to her family. It fostered a small sense of loneliness with in her, but she watched her mother and learned how she should act. Eventually, though, Aurelia took comfort in her younger brother’s presence; they usually amused themselves away from the adults and became closer as they grew together.
Aurelia’s brother, Alex, was born with the family’s natural disposition, but was the only one that seemed to understand her. Alex was pushed toward athletic achievement more than Aurelia, which most often took him away from spending with his sister. When they did have the opportunity to hang out and talk, Aurelia could always find comfort in his presence and his deep understanding, even if they haven’t seem each other in a while. As they have grown older, they seem to see less and less of each other, but continue to promise to make more time for family connection, which is a common assurance within the Emerson family. When Aurelia entered high school, her parents bought a second home in New York for the sole purpose of staying in contact with her mother’s family, although most of the year their house is rented out, save the summers when the Emerson travel to host and attend parties. High school has given Aurelia more reason to stay in New Jersey, however, so her choices about how she spends her time are yet to be decided.
