Since their first encounter Steph couldn't sleep, she kept playing their conversation over and over again in her head, and she couldn't believe she'd been so mean to him. She had been so upset with him that she hadn't even thought about how he'd been feeling and she just let him have everything she could throw at him, and from each sentence that came from his mouth she just hadn't seemed to listen to him at all. He had been in a damn wheelchair and she'd still gave him hell for leaving her alone? He had been shot in battle protecting the country and she was mad that he'd hung her out to dry? What the hell was she thinking doing that to a man who'd put his life on the line for her, for everyone?
Sitting in her room hadn't been helping, she'd remembered all the times the two had hung out in there all night and fallen asleep next to each other, so whenever she stayed in their for too long of course her thoughts were brought back to the man she'd been so close with. She had loved him, he had to have known that, and now her heart had just been shattered as she walked around town a broken individual. He hadn't called since that day, five days six hours and forty-seven minutes and counting, but she would refuse to admit she'd been keeping track. She let out a sigh as she found her way to the alley, she had been walking for hours not getting anywhere fast, and needed to take a break.
Once in the alley she found a crate to sit on and let her body sink back against the wall as she pulled her cell from her pocket. She let out a sigh as she flipped it open and searched for his number, and once she'd found it she pressed the button to send him a text. Hi. We should talk. I'm at the general store. she had wrote the message out with ease, but wasn't sure if she should send it or not. Her finger lingered on the send button as she thought about what he'd do, maybe he'd just delete it want nothing to do with her, or maybe he'd accept the invitation and come over to talk to her? She didn't know which option she'd prefer at the moment, but she needed to send it to him. She had to at least let him know she'd been thinking about him, so her finger dropped over the send button as the text was sent to his phone. "Great, what have you done?" She said to herself as she sat there dropping her head into her hands feeling the weight of the situation come crashing over her.

Aiden was in the same state Steph had been in. He couldn't get her out of his head not like that had changed from before it just had intensified ever since they had shared that conversation. Aiden was sitting in front of his tv chain smoking up a storm from all the stress. He had attended all of his physical therapy sessions and was showing tremendous progress. He had built back strength in his legs quickly, but not enough to support himself alone. The doctor said because he had been an athlete before was mostly the reason he might be able to get out of that wheelchair faster. Aiden can walk with the help of supporting his upper body on bars. He was disappointed in himself for not being able to walk by himself even with the flattery the therapist threw his way whenever he walked.
Aiden's phone buzzed on the coffee table next to his ash tray which was overflowing with ashes. Curious, Aiden reached over and read the text message. A smile appeared on his lips as he saw who it was from. The beautiful girl appeared in his head again as he leaned back in his chair. He missed her scent, her personality, her lips. He hoped they would get back to their old ways of depending upon each other. His brow furrowed though as he read the text and became even more curious. Aiden reached over and took one last drag of his cigarette and snubbed it out. He threw off his shirt and wheeled over to his room to pick out a new shirt that didn't wreak of smoke. He also pulled his jeans on and tied some shoes over his feet that he couldn't feel. Aiden wheeled back out to the coffee table texted Steph back: I'm on my way. He sent it and placed his phone back in his pocket.
Aiden realized how he would drop anything for this girl. If he had been doing something important it's significance would quickly drop as soon as she needed him. He saw this now and realized he couldn't leave her ever again. He couldn't disappoint her again. He quickly took the elevator down and called a taxi/van. As he got out there he was glad to see the checkered light on top of the yellow car. He got in with the help of the driver and quickly uttered the address in which he wanted to go. The driver again helped him out of the car as Aiden handed him a twenty way over the limit and told him to keep the change. Aiden wheeled out front of the general store and looked around to see if he could find Steph. He frowned as he couldn't find her and slowly reached for his carton of cigarettes before stopping and scolding himself. He then placed his hands back on his wheels and went to the alley behind the store.
Aiden squinted down the alley and saw Steph sitting on a box. He felt a his lips turn upward but he quickly removed the smile and sighed wheeling towards her. He slowly came to a stop as he reached her. He stayed quiet for a minute before looking over at Steph, "Hey..." He uttered quietly in almost a whisper. He moved around so that his chair was centered facing her. He looked at her not averting his eyes because he wanted to take everything about her in. He inhaled and her scent filled his nose. He smiled again but it was only there for a second and he doubted she had noticed. He cleared his throat before continuing, "..you wanted to talk?" He didn't have much more to say. He was curious as to why she had called him here and was anxious to know. His hands were even shaking slightly as he clasped his hands together to resist the urge to get a cigarette out.

Steph sat there with her phone in her hand as she looked around figuring she better just leave and find something to do because he hadn't text her back, but when she stood up her phone buzzed in her hand letting her know she'd had a new text message. Her stomach seemed to jump in her throat as she flipped her phone back open finding out it'd been from Aiden, so nervously she pressed the button to let her view the message. Great Steph, now he's on his way. she told herself as she sat up on the crate looking around for something where she could see her reflection. Of course she couldn't find anything, not even the smallest of puddles to see if she'd looked good enough for him, but why would then she had to ask herself why she'd cared so much about what he thought?
That was a simple answer, he would always be one of the men she'd care most about in her life, and of course she'd want to look good and be perfect for him. Make-up wasn't such a big deal for her though, she barely wore it unless if she were going out for a special occassion, so obviously today she had nothing but some lip gloss on. Her hair had been pulled back in a clip letting it flow over her shoulders, but keeping the bangs out of her eyes. She had wanted to leave and avoid seeing him right now, but since he'd said he'd been on his way she at least had to stay and give him that much. He at least was making the effort to come to her so she had to meet him, otherwise she should have never sent him the text in the first place.
All was quiet around her except for the low mumble of people passing by her chatting away either to each other or on their cellphones, but soon the air was filled with the distict sound of a wheelchair gliding across the pavement. Her heart sank, maybe there had been someone else around that had been confined to one? Sadly when she saw him turn towards where she was she couldn't avoid him any longer, he'd been right there next to her now. She gave him a soft smile not able to say anything as he wheeled closer to her, stopping as he positioned himself near her. She picked a hand up to raise a silent hello unable to form any words as he sat there.
She let out a silent sigh as she looked back up at him catching his eyes and lingering for just a moment. Steph couldn't understand why she'd been acting this way, she was a very strong person and didn't let fear and anxiety get the best of her. How was it that Aiden had this magic about him that could make Steph crumble at the knees? "So how you doing with the smoking thing?" That had been a simple enough question that could lead to some sort of conversation.

Aiden felt the guilt rise to his eyes as she asked about how the smoking was going. He shrugged his shoulders, "Not as good as I would like." He said truthfully he didn't want to lie to Steph anymore. He was going to let her know the truth, "My physical therapist is saying I could be walking in less than a month with me coming every single day now." He said with a little bit of pride having been able to keep up that side of their bargain. He looked down at his legs and had a look of disgust wave over his face as he looked at the useless things. He shook his head and slowly let his eyes rise to hers. God she was so beautiful. Steph was one of those girls that didn't need makeup and she would still blow your mind with her beauty. He wanted to comment on it, but he wasn't sure how she would react at the moment so he stayed quiet.
Aiden unclasped his hands to feel the nerves gone for the moment. When he was around Steph he didn't need a cigarette. Her voice calmed him even when she was angry. When she was around he felt like a better person. He knew there was something special to say about that. No girl had ever made him feel this way except for her. He wanted to pour his heart out to her right then and there, but he knew it was too soon. He rolled his wheels back and forth, his form of pacing, and stopped after a few moments. He didn't know but his knee was now resting against one of her legs. He couldn't feel it so he remained the way he was.
"So how've you been?" He asked quietly keeping eye contact with her. "I mean we haven't seen each other in what? five days?" He asked putting it lightly because he knew exactly how long it had been. He had been thinking about her every moment since they had spoken last. She filled his dreams, his thoughts, his everything. Aiden didn't mind one bit though. Steph was the one for him. He could easily say this but he wouldn't. He felt like a complete idiot for leaving her again and again only to cause her pain. He was done with that. He wasn't leaving anymore. He wasn't going to give Steph the option to ignore him. He was going to be in her life hopefully the most meaningful guy in her life anyway...

She let out a sigh when he had told her the cigarette habit hadn't been going according to plan, but she had a feeling that would be the case. For all she knew he could have came back after she'd left and dug the rest of his pack out of the trash, or if he was too lazy he could have just wheeled into a store and gotten another full one. "I guess it'll just take some time." She said calmly trying hard not to get upset with him again, she didn't want another episode like their last encounter. She knew he had the will-power though and could do it if he had just tried, he'd been so strong but it just seemed like he'd given up. Her question was why would he give up when he'd had such a great life before the chair? He could have it back, it'd just take time, and yet she wasn't even sure if he wanted things back to normal.
"That's good though." She said after he'd started about the physical therapy. "What're you up to?" She asked curiously wanting to know how much he'd gotten accomplished. Even if she had been upset with him she still cared about how he'd been doing, and hearing that he'd been doing better made her feel somewhat better herself. She knew he had it in him and could achieve whatever level of greatness he desired, he just had to push himself harder than usual to obtain such a goal like walking again after being shot. "I know you can do it." She said looking up at him, a smile on her face as she gazed into his eyes for a moment before dropping her sight back to the ground. "Just takes time." Jesus, everything just seemed to take time and Steph wished there was a quick fix, but lord knew that would never be the case when it came to her and Aiden. Nothing ever seemed to go smoothly for either of them, especially when they managed to be together doing whatever.
Her leg quivered when she'd felt his knee against hers, even the slightest touch from him had been long overdue but she wouldn't tell him that, and even though it had been just his knee it still felt good to be near him again. She didn't want to continue being mad at him, she just couldn't figure out how she could forgive him for doing something like that to her. "Has it been that long?" She asked trying to make it sound as though she too hadn't been counting even though it'd been a complete lie. "I'm doing good really, hanging out and playing soccer." She shrugged, not much had happened since their last meeting except for her hanging with her friend Kirk, but Aiden had known about him and he wasn't a threat in the slightest.

Aiden shrugged, "I can walk, but only with some support for my upper body so i'm not completely relying on my legs." He said as if it was no great accomplishment. He wanted to be able to walk alone again. To be able to feel his knee against hers. He wanted to be able to pick her up in his arms and hold her. Aiden wanted all these things but didn't know if Steph was willing to give this to him. He hoped things could get back to normal between the two soon. "It's hard with the cigarettes though i'm always alone and it's almost like a habit for when I get bored. Something dumb I picked up during the war." He hated referencing back to his time in Iraq. He remembered being shot over and over again it flashed in his mind. He thought he was a goner, but luckily his partner had been able to get him back to base.
When she told him she believed in him he felt his heart swell. He smiled as his eyes made contact with hers. He wanted to be close to her. Her eyes were so bright and he felt his heart clench as he looked at her. He loved her so much he just knew now wasn't the time to say it. He had just come back after leaving her unaware. He would have to wait until he regained her trust. Aiden smirked as it seemed he had been the only one to keep track of how long they had been apart. "Yea it's been a while too long if you ask me." He said jokingly as he looked at her and let his famous smirk slide to his lips.
Playing soccer....Now that was something he missed. He nodded, "I'll have to come to one of your games soon. After all I am your biggest fan." he said with a proud smile. "Also I talked to my coach and he said once I was ready he would be happy to have me back." He said smiling. He was so happy to know he would be able to come back and play soccer again. He had missed it so much. He had also missed his late night practice sessions with Steph. The two were always so competitive on the field. Though Aiden liked to mess around with her from time to time otherwise it was strictly business. As Aiden looked up and the sky and back down at Steph he reached over and brushed her bangs to the side of her face. He let his fingers linger on her face for a moment stroking his thumb across her cheek. He then removed his hand and clasped them back together to prevent himself from doing it again. He missed having Steph in his arms and seeing her every day. He wished they could move back in together or get to the stage to where they had practically lived together.

"Guess you should have been either a basketball or tennis player then," She said as she cracked a joke for the first time around him since they had first met five days ago. She had meant that because of how much upper-body strength he'd needed, and with soccer your legs are what need the most strength since their mostly all you use except for obviously the goalie. She let out a sigh when he had said how hard it'd been with the cigarettes, she would have offered to stay there with him in a heartbeat back in the day but so much had changed since then. "Maybe during the day you should get out? Find some things to do and keep yourself busy or something?" She would hang out with him, she still cared for him greatly, but she didn't want to sound that way thinking he'd probably find her to be weaker than she truly was.
She picked her head up to look at him again when he'd said it'd been too long, even after only five days and let out a heaving sigh. "Five days is too long? Try over a year." She said referring to when he'd left without a word. "Five days is nothing." She could feel anger start to surge through her body but she took some deep breaths to try to calm herself. It seemed to be working okay as she moved around on the crate trying to get comfortable, her knee slipping from where it had been against his to almost inches from him. Her entire body had seemed to shift away from him as though she'd been reverting back to how she was the last time the two had talked. "You could have called anytime you know," She said looking up at him again. "I would have answered no matter what the hour." Truth be told she had a hard time sleeping knowing he'd been back anyway, so of course she probably would have been awake if her phone had rang.
"Once your ready? What if that takes years and you graduate? Then what Aiden?" She asked cautiously staring into his eyes as she had asked her past three questions. She knew that he wouldn't be back to his great playing self anytime soon, but she was sure he could still be pretty good if he worked at it. She would help him once she felt easier around him, but that would require them spending more time together, and she felt ackward right now around him. She knew she had to get over that feeling eventually though, she wanted to be back in his life just not as much as she had been just yet. She needed to take her time and work gradually back into any form of relationship, even if it were just a close friendship, but part of her couldn't wait that long to be close enough to him again. She was entirely too torn inside as she sat there.

Aiden sighed as he looked down after her three part question, "It won't be years...and you wanna know why?" He asked raising his eyes to meet hers, "because I want to be able to play soccer with you again, I want to be able to lift you off the ground and hold you, I can't take feeling inferior to everyone because of this damn thing!" He said rolling back away from her as he was angry with himself more than her. He felt tears of anger fill his eyes but he wouldn't let them fall. He pressed the palms of his hands against his eyes as he leaned back in the chair. He may have come off strong towards Steph, but he wanted her to know how much he was still in love with her. He had to reassure her he wasn't going anywhere without her ever again.
He couldn't take being in the damn chair anymore. He looked down at the steel trap and finally pushed himself up from the chair. Luckily he still had kept his upper body in great shape. He was toned and had great muscles to hold his entire body weight easily. He leaned his back against the brick wall behind him and slowly started to stand with help of the wall. He pushed the chair out from under him as he stood with his shoulders leaning against the wall. This was as far as he had gotten in physical therapy. He couldn't walk on his own but he could sure as hell stand with the help of something to catch him if he lost his balance.
He let out a sigh of relief as he could finally stand and it felt so much different to be able to look down at Steph if she were to stand. Aiden then went back to some of Steph's previous comments, "I would get out of my house, but I don't really know anyone around here except you and you don't ever seem too keen on seeing me these days, which I understand completely, you have every right to be angry with me. You have every right to be upset because i'm an idiot." He said knowingly as he nodded his head. He placed his hands in his pockets as he looked down at Steph as she sat on the crate opposite the wall of him. "This smoking thing is definitely hard and I know you want me to quit and I am trying believe me I am it's just been a comfort to me, in a twisted way I know, to relax and not have to worry about things I should be worrying about. It's how I deal with stress. Learning to walk seems so easy compared to kicking the old habit...in my eyes anyways." He said shrugging his shoulders.

Steph kept her eyes focused on his as he spoke of the things he'd wanted to do after getting out of that chair. She would love to have him on the field with her again, she missed being able to play around with him like she had so many times before, and when he had said the part about holding her part of her wanted him to be able to again. Part of her needed his embrace when she'd felt down, but she knew she couldn't have that right now. "Well what is taking you so long then?" She asked keeping her eyes locked on his. She didn't want to move them, she wanted to remember the way the man had looked (chair or not) because each time that'd he'd appeared infront of her he just seemed that much more gorgeous.
She knew that it wasn't going to just happen in a week though, she understood that much but still wished it could happen sooner than later. Nothing would make her happier than to be able to take a walk with him, or even turn on a song on her stereo in her dorm and just dance with him. Everything about this man had been amazing, he had taken very good care of Stephanie since they had known each other, but still her thoughts were fighting one another since she still knew that he'd done something terrible by leaving her. She had been lost in her own thoughts when she heard him start to move in the chair. "What are you doing? Whoa, be careful." She said ready to jump if he'd slipped or something not even knowing why he'd been trying to get up in the first place. She wasn't strong enough to support his entire weight if he'd fallen, the most she could do was lessen the fall as he hit the ground, so part of her was nervous for the both of them.
As he kicked the chair from his side and leaned against the wall she couldn't help but see the old Aiden again, and as he started talking it was as though he'd never left for that moment. She stopped listening to him as her imagination went wild thinking back to how close the two had been, and what they had managed to accomplish each other. She stood from her crate and walked over to him, only needing a few steps since she was right opposite him, and stood on her toes just for a moment to give him a kiss square on the lips. She closed her eyes of course as her lips had brushed his remembering back to all the times the two had hung out together, and couldn't help but feel her entire body start to warm up.
She pulled back though knowing this hadn't been right and slunk backwards right to her crate to sit back down. "Sorry, guess I got caught up in the past." She said, that being only half the reason she'd just done that. The other had obviously been the simple fact that she'd wanted it. She had wanted to give him a kiss, not be mad at him, and pretend that nothing had changed, but since that wasn't going to be easy at least the got a kiss out of the way, that had to have been a plus.

He had noticed Stephanie had kind of spaced out while had been talking about kicking the smoking habit. He frowned a bit but it quickly went away as she stood up off the crate and started to walk towards him. He drifted off mid-sentence as she leaned into him. For the short amount of time that her lips pressed against his he felt as if his whole world had changed. Like everything was brighter and better. He kissed her back for the short amount of time before her lips pulled away. He had a look of shock on his face as she took her seat back on the crate. He tried to remove the look from his face but his heart was beating so rapidly he was more occupied with that. He then shook his head to get rid of the initial shock. He wanted to walk over to her and pick her up and wrap her in his arms, but he knew he couldn't. The minute he stepped off this wall was when his weakness would set in and he would fall.
Aiden stayed firm as he strengthened his posture against the wall using his legs to stand him up a bit straighter. He then shook his head, "Don't be sorry..." He said his voice quiet as he looked over at her. Steph was definitely sending him mixed signals, but it definitely wasn't gonna bug him if there were more kisses from this girl coming his way. He rested his hand on his wheelchair locking the breaks so it wouldn't move when he made an attempt to walk to the crate to sit down next to her. He had to be near her again. He wanted to feel her body warmth against him. He leaned against the chair and slowly moved his legs. Sure he wouldn't stand a chance without support of the chair but he definitely felt proud of himself for taking the two steps it took to reach the crate.
He took a seat and let out the air he had been holding since he had taken his first step. "God I will never again take my legs for granted once I can walk again." He said with a slight chuckle. So the saying was true you never appreciated something until it was gone. Well he definitely missed his legs and was so grateful to know that he could get his ability to walk back. As silence grew around them this time it hadn't been awkward for him. He didn't feel the need to fill this silence so they could move on with a new conversation. He leaned back against the brick wall that the crate was piled up against. He looked over at Steph to admire the little quirks about her. He wanted to lean over and kiss her again but he wasn't sure if that would go over well. He had a feeling he was gonna have to let Steph initiate a few things before he could feel comfortable doing certain things with her again. He reached up and rubbed his hand against the stubble that resided on his chin. He definitely needed to shave he hadn't been too worried about his physical appearance since he had been told he wouldn't be able to work. Though now that he felt like he needed to impress Steph he was definitely going to change that.

She knew he was going to tell her not to be sorry, and she also knew that she shouldn't have felt sorry for doing something that she'd wanted to for quite some time, and yet she still felt bad for going over and kissing him. She knew she'd wanted it, had a feeling he'd wanted it, and yet it seemed wrong to do it? What the hell did that even mean? She let out a sigh as she watched him take the few steps to get to her crate and sit down beside her, her heart filled with joy as she watched him struggle but manage as he sat down. She heard the heave of breathe he'd let out after he'd made his way the two steps, and Steph was very proud of him for doing that.
When he sat down next to her she let out an inaudible sigh as she glanced over at his legs since she'd been looking towards the ground. She could feel him get comfortable beside her as he leaned against the wall, and something in her told her that she knew what the next step had to be. She pushed her body back close to the wall and shifted her weight so she could lean against his shoulder nuzzling her head into his body getting comfortable wanting to at least feel him against her. She had done this many times before though so it hadn't felt weird or anything, if anything it'd felt great to be able to relax like this with him again. "What do they feel like?" She asked softly still looking down at his legs. She had wondered if he'd had any feeling in them since he'd started walking, or if they were still pretty much just numb. She couldn't even begin to imagine what would happen if she hadn't been able to use her legs.
She closed her eyes taking his scent in, something again that she had missed since him leaving, and her thoughts started to fall back again on the memories she'd had of the two. The late night soccer games where it'd been just the two of them in the dark, and the movie nights where she'd rent all the lame movies and he wouldn't complain as they sat next to each other on his couch watching them. He had never complained when around her, just about the chair since he'd been home again but that was obvious. She'd do nothing but complain too if she had been in that situation. She took a deep breathe very comfortable resting her head on his shoulder right now.

Aiden let a smile come to his lips as she got closer to him. This was the reaction he had been waiting for. He lifted his arm and wrapped it around her pulling her closer to him. He lifted his head and kissed the top of her head before leaning his head back against the brick wall. "It's like constant numbness to tell you the truth. Though the more I work at it I get a little bit of feeling back every time." He said happily. He knew Steph couldn't wait for him to be able to walk with her again and he couldn't wait to join her on the soccer field. He missed their late night encounters on the field challenging each other until they were exhausted. The thing Aiden was not looking forward to was getting back in shape. It took only a week to get out of shape but close to a month to get into the shape he had been in before losing his ability to walk.
He couldn't wipe the smile off his face as he felt Steph's body against his. He kept having old memories flash in his mind like nights he would spend with Steph not having to say a word because they knew exactly what the other was thinking. He missed those times so much. Though he could feel that tonight would build progress for the pair. Steph was warming up to him luckily faster than he would have imagined. He knew this small gesture of cuddling together was something big to Steph. This meant that there was a possible future for them and this was why Aiden couldn't wipe the smile from his face. He kept looking over at Steph as she rested her head on his shoulder. He rubbed his thumb on her shoulder as he started to hum one of her favorite songs.
He leaned his head back against the wall looking up at the sky in the small crack between the alley they were sitting between. "I missed you so much." He said quietly removing his eyes from the sky to look at her yet again. He hoped this wouldn't spark an argument between the two. He just had to say something to her. He felt his heart overwhelmed by how close Steph was to him. It was beating so rapidly he was having trouble keeping it in control. "So how've you been these long five days we haven't seen each other?" He asked with a small smirk on his lips as he looked at the wall across from them. He was glad he had decided to show her his progress and that he was fighting to get her back in his life quickly.

When he had been talking about his legs she couldn't take her eyes from them. "How much muscle have you lost?" She asked glancing over at the chair that had been vacant right now. She knew that you lost muscle the more you didn't use it and since he hadn't been able to use it she'd wondered how bad off he was. She knew one thing for sure though, he was going to have one hell of a long road of conditioning after he could start walking again. She let out another sigh as she looked up just momentarily letting her head slip from his shoulder so she could look him in the eyes to give him a soft smile. "I can't wait to beat your ass on the field."
That much was true, before he'd been hurt he'd been a match on the field, or maybe even a hair better than her (though she'd never admit it), and now she knew that she would beat him hands down since he hadn't been practicing as much as her. She also just couldn't wait until he made his way to the field so she could show him how much better she'd become since their time apart. Since he'd left she had spent most of her time on the field perfecting each move so she could be better than ever when the season started, though she'd already been the best woman on the field so she didn't have far to go for perfection (at least that is how she figured it).
She felt her heart skip a beat when he had told her that he'd missed her, and at that moment she was brought back to the reality of the situation. She picked her head up from his shoulder and looked straight infront of her, this sudden change of emotions were driving her insane as she sat there thinking one thing after another, not knowing what to say to the man that had just told her that. She had missed him more than anything but wasn't sure if she should admit that to him. "Yeah, I bet." She said trying to stay cool not wanting to get too involved in the conversation. "Eh, can't complain I guess. I'm working out and doing school work, nothing out of the ordinary, so I guess i'd say i'm just...normal." She shrugged not wanting to get into everything that she had done, and she especially didn't want to tell him that he'd been driving her absolutely mad the last portion of the week.

Aiden laughed as she said she was gonna beat his ass, "Oh god whenever I can use these damn things again it's gonna suck getting back in shape. Also you beating me over and over again is not gonna be fun, but I promise you I will become good again." He said pointing a finger at her and smirking. He knew that was gonna take a long time but he knew his competitive would set in and he would drive himself crazy with working out. He knew he had said something wrong when she moved away from him. He sighed as he removed his arm from her and clasped his hands together. He went back to his state of unsureness. Here she went on putting her strong side. Damn Stephanie and her pride. She always closed up when he tried to get close to her again. He felt anger again like he had when he kicked his wheelchair aside.
He wanted to say something but he didn't want to start an argument. Things had been going almost perfectly for him until now. He shook his head he shouldn't have said anything that meant he still wanted to be with her. He rubbed his eyes getting tired of this play she put on. "I know I deserve this cold side of you but this wall you've built up only seems to get stronger every time you see me. Maybe I was wrong maybe the kiss was just for old times and maybe it was a mistake." He said shaking his head. "I mean honestly do you even want me around? You say you do but I don't know if you just say it for old times sake or if you really mean it." He said shoving himself up off the crate losing his balance and almost falling but grabbed the crate at the last moment.
He thanked god he hadn't fallen in that moment otherwise he would have been so embarrassed infront of this girl. He walked back over to the wall across from her slowly but surely and slide down so he was sitting his knees up infront of him as his forearms leaned against his knees. He sighed as he beat his fist on the ground in his anger. He was tired of the games. He did deserve them but that didn't mean he liked it. He was tired of having to break down her wall working so hard and then said something wrong and the wall was back up and almost impenetrable again. He would fight for her though. That was one thing he would never stop doing.

When he had started to ask her all of those questions she had no idea what to say or do, she just sat there stiff and silent looking everywhere except at him. Did he honestly expect her to just forgive him and go on living like they had before he'd left so quickly? She let out a sigh knowing she had to answer the question sometime, so might as well get something out now. "I don't know what the kiss was, I mean it just sort of happened, I wasn't even thinking." She said truthfully shaking her head. "I know I probably shouldn't have done it but I just, I guess I just wanted to." She told him looking at him for only a second before tearing her eyes back away to look around. "I mean it's been so long, I guess I just needed that, you know?" She asked softly as she looked back at the ground at her feet.
"Of course I want to have you back around," She said almost sounding defensive as she stood to look down at him. "You're my best damn friend, why wouldn't I want you around?" She said getting somewhat angry with him right now for having him think she didn't want him around her. "You've got to be shitting me," She told herself as she started to pace infront of him. "I missed you, don't you get that? I loved you and those sort of feelings are sort of hard to get rid of, you know?" although that had been a question it was brought out as more of a statement as she kept ranting off infront of him.
She watched him get up and go across to the other wall and sit down and she just turned to look at him. "Don't you understand that you practically crushed my spirits?" Wow, she must have been angry if she'd been talking about her spirits and other such crap she usually didn't have. "I loved you and you left, so yeah i'm going to be somewhat defensive around you unsure of when the hell you're going to leave next. What other dumb thing you're going to get yourself involved in and leave me stranded. I'm not going to let you pull me in just to hurt me again, I don't think so. Damnit." She was talking mostly to herself right now as she started to pace again. "Get it through your head, kid."
