Jack was leaning against the fence leading to the elementary school's playground. He was wearing a pair of black jeans and a red tee shirt under and unbuttoned white dress shirt. He tried on more outfits than a girl would in preperation for the first date. He smiled to himself, his hands shoved deep into his pockets as he tried to stop the nervous habit of checking his watch for her arrival.

Ava arrived at the park just after seven wearing jeans and a black tank top, a zip up sweater on top since it was starting to get cool out..though had she know his plan she may have dressed a little nicer. Or even after seeing what he wore.

After parking, she walked over and saw him standing by the fence. "Hey. Been here long?" she asked him, curiously as she went over.

"Hey" He said with a relieved smile, happy she had gotten to the park, it had felt only like days. He moved from leaning against the fence and walked closer to where she was. He wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her into a kiss, a real kiss, something he had wanted to do since she came in this afternoon at the diner. He moved back just a bit to look down at her, " not that long." He added with a smirk.

She was slightly taken back by the intensity of the kiss, but embraced it and kissed him back whole heartedly before he pulled away and spoke. She nodded, catching the lip that then fell upon his lips. "Okay." she said, looking from the swings and back to him, still wondering what they were doing there.

"Walk with me?" He asked her as the arm around her waist moved around and took her hand gently into his. He looked away with a nervous dorky grin before glancing back over to her trying to mask his nervousness.

"Okay..?" Ava responded, trying to figure out what he was up to. He couldn't have just wanted to walk. Well, he could've, but she knew him better than that. They started walking and she started looking around a little, waiting for something out of the ordinary to catch her eye, but there was nothing..weird.

“Do you remember how we met, I mean before the diner that day?” He asked her. He looked into the elementary playground and back at the bench against the back of the playground, you could just about see it past the jungle gym in front of it.

Ava thought about it carefully, trying to remember, but honestly couldn't. It had probably just been an ordinary day to her and she'd gone about her routine not thinking much of it, though clearly he had. It made her feel slightly guilty that she found herself shaking her head no. "Parts." she said, assuming that the playground now at something to do with it. "Why?"

“ It was my first week in town, and I really hated this place, there wasn’t anything here for me. I don’t really remember it but there was some argument with Scott which made me just leave and I came here. It was recess and kids were all over the place. I thought it was strange when I first saw you, a bit weird cause out of anything going on there you were by far the most peaceful and interesting thing. I think I gave this kid five bucks to bring some flower I pulled out of the ground over to you…and he did. About the time he was walking over though I felt like a complete asshole, I mean who does stuff like that- it’s just dorky right?” He said wrapping his arms around him as he paced a bit trying to get everything right. “ So I walk over and you ask me about this James Dean thing I got going on, the jacket, the hair. I really was a dork!” He said with a laugh before continuing, “ It was a short conversation but things didn’t seem so bad after that, and then a few days later when you were at the diner and you were just so into that book of yours, I knew that you were probably the only thing that would keep me in this place.” He said looking away for a moment a bit nervously. He looked back to her with a very small, almost invisible smile.

The flower. Ava remembered that flower. She'd kept it until the very last sad petal had fallen. Call her a sentimental fool, but she'd never had a total stranger buy her a flower before. Maybe that was why he'd ended up stealing her heart the first of many times. "I remember." she said, smiling as he said she was the only thing that kept him there. But then she hadn't time and time again, right? Yes, a part of her was still thinking he'd leave again someday and every morning she emotional readied herself for today to be the day. "So why the walk down memory lane?" she asked him, curiously turning to face him, stopping for a moment.

“ I was a jerk, always leaving and coming back when I ran out of cash. I was a dumb kid that thought what he knew was best and that I could live off of fixing cars and who knows what else. I didn’t really think about anyone or anything that might have gotten hurt in the process. But I’m not going anywhere now, and I know what I want.” He said letting out a large breath. He stood before her thinking that if she were to reject this, the best way to get out of here quick would to go under the monkey bars and fling himself over the fence to the highway. He could always hitch a ride from there to Mexico.

He knew what he wanted. A part of her still wasn't sure. Yes, he'd built a life here now, but picking up and leaving was still just as easy. She didn't know what she would do if he left. He was such a big part of her life.

"And what do you want?" she said, looking into his eyes."I mean there really isn't anyone to bum cash off of anymore so you are out of luck, there.." she said in a joking manner, trying not to think about him going somewhere. It seemed like anyone she ever cared about left. Was she bad luck?

He laughed and knew that it was the right time.“I suck with words, I‘ve never been able to get what I want to say right the first time, but then again you only get one shot.” He said with a small laugh. He got down before her on one knee and took her small hand in his. “ I guarantee and promise that theres gonna be good times. I guarantee that there’s gonna be hard times for us, and with our record its gonna be often. But if I don’t ask you to marry me, I’ll regret for the rest of my life because I know you’re the one. Ava Louise Harper, will you marry me?” He asked her as he took the ring box out of his pocket and held it open to her.

She had no idea he'd been planning this..or even considering doing this. In fact, she had had no idea or inkling that he wanted to marry her at all. Which was fine with her to be honest. Not that she didn't want to marry him, she just didn't want him to feel rushed into this or forced. But he seemed ready..he even had a speech and as he'd said, he wasn't normally great with them, well words. Normally. Today though, his words touched her heart and she knew there was just one thing she needed to say. She smiled, but the reluctant side of her, maybe the questioning journalist side, started kicking in. "Are you sure about this?" she asked him, wanting to know he was. "Because I really want to say yes, but first I need to know that you're sure.." She was secretly hoping he would say he was. Why wouldn't she be hoping that?

"Ava I want to spend the rest of my life with you, theres no question to that." He said with a small smile. He still held his breath hoping to hear the words to soothe him back. He couldn't picture his life without her, he couldn't live without knowing that he could hold her or have her next to him forever.
