Three days (java)

She'd already planned to go to the funeral with him since she'd known Scott too, as well as wanting to be there for him..but she was just as confused as him about the small things. And she was normally a good delegator. She needed to be. "What did his will say?" she asked, thinking maybe Scott had left some idea. She knew that the will would probably have been updated since he'd been diagnosed with cancer.

He laughed as he recalled how when the lawyer read the letter it sounded more like Scott reading it, "It said something like, To my darling dumbass..I leave everything to you- this way you know your not alone here..he went on to say something about a bank account with money left in it that he had been putting away in for a few months and some other stuff...I couldn't give the diner away even if I needed to." He said knowing that this was the one thing both him and Scott cared about, and the only thing he had of Scott now.

Ava listened, laughing a little at the message as Jack paraphrased it. It sounded a lot like Scott. "So you handle the diner and Sam and I can handle the Orchid." She said, thinking that she had a lot more time on her hands now and Sam had been wanting more shifts to make some extra money before the babies came. "And everything else, we have time to think about..Let's just do this day by day, okay?"

"I can't just leave you guys with that, I could work during the day, head over to the pub later at night..It's not like I got school or anything else going on." He said since truely he had no other life at the moment besides ava or work.He knew that he could do what he had to do on his own, he never wanted to have to rely on others. Thats what happened with scott, now look where he is.

Ava shook her head. "I'm not saying forever..I just mean like a few weeks until things get..under control again." She replied, about to say normal, but then, were they ever normal? "Handle things at the diner and leave your nights free. If you want to come the pub fine, but you won't be working. I can do all the paperwork that needs to be doing and Sam is fine behind the bar..We've got this."

"I don't know one thing about cooking, Scott did most of it himself- how do I hire a cook when I don't know how i'm gonna pay them." He said as the thought popped into his head. He dropped his grip of her and walked over to the edge of the small deck of the orchid that was built onto the pier. He folded his arms across his chest. He was gonna have to do this and grow up. Time like this he wished he was already there, let everything be a memory and him live out the good part. He turned to look back at her. "Day by day,huh?" He said letting out a deep breath.

Hire a cook...hmmm...Smiling, Ava replied "Well, I'd trade jobs with you, but then again I don't want you to lose your regulars that come for the coffee...and I don't think I could rock the apron." She teased, smirking a little as he walked away a little bit. "Yep, day by day." she said with a nod.

He sighed deeply as he walked a bit back over to her,"So you still staying with Rachel?" He asked her.There were a lot of things he knew he had to do but he could let that sit for a bit, at least until the weekend was over. He just wanted to get over one thing and maybe relax just a bit before he had to go on with this new thing in his life.

Ava laughed. "Actually, not exactly.." she said thinking about it. "Rachel sort of moved back in with Lance so that leaves me living with her parents and her sister." She smiled and laughed again. "It's weird. In high school I never had parents to live with and now suddenly I'm nineteen and I do."

He smiled..it was a bit ironic. She hadn't had parents around when she needed them and now that she was an adult she did. "Well uh, you maybe uh wanna stay with me for a few days?" He asked her in a way that sounded like he was offering for her benefit but really it was cause he didn't want to be alone in Scott's apartment.

It wasn't like she was living, living with him..just for a few days. Still, she needed to think about it. She looked at him again. "Okay." she finally agreed, thinking that she couldn't impose on Rachel's family much longer anyways. She didn't care what his reasons were, she just knew she wanted this.

He waited for her answer thinking she was trying to come up with a way to reject him nicely. He was a bit surprised in her saying yes. "Good." He said with a smile," We could leave here soon, I just need to get some stuff from the back..Is there anything your gonna need?" He asked her.

"From Rachel's?" Ava said and thought. "Probably just some clothes and a toothbrush and stuff." she replied knowing she'd have a better idea when she got there and everything was in front of her. "Everything else can probably wait."

"So we could head over there stuff and if you want we can pick something up to eat on the way- fast food or something." He said trying to push a small smile even though everything was just sinking in and his mind was all over the place.

"Sounds good." She replied with a nod, giving him a small, quick kiss. She knew his thoughts were going a thousand miles a minutes..she expected them too. None of them were experts in death and she knew it would take some time for it all to sink in. What came out of her mouth next surprised even her. They'd just started dating again, but she knew it was real and perhaps she'd always felt this way. "I love you." she said, semi-nervously, looking at him.
