Listening to Lance talk brought peace to Kennedy, something that she had not felt in a while, and at this exact moment she'd forgotten about her other cares in the world. She did not think about how their lives were going to change once they each got into their seperate vehicle and parted. To be honest she didn't care, not now when she was having such a good time for once with him. It had been just the two of them in a relaxing environment, what more could she ask for?
Her phone rang, of course it just had to and she could hear it faintly. "You have got to be kidding me." she laughed, though stood up beside him on the small ledge they had been sitting on. "I should really go up and see who that was," she used past-tense because of course she wouldn't make it there before they would be asked to leave a message. "It could be about Ryan." since he had been at her aunts she might have a question, and Kenn had told her she could call her anytime. "I am so sorry, what was I saying about things never being simple?" She laughed as she walked slowly across the ledge towards the rocky-dirt path that would lead them back up from the quarry. As she was walking away she heard him saying something about working as a secretary at his record label. "What?" she asked turning around to look at him, she had known he could sing somewhat but didn't think his talent had gotten him as far as an actual recording artist. "You seriously?" She asked grinning as she looked at him, for a minute forgetting the phone was playing that sweet tone above them. "Wow, I guess a congrats is in order. I don't think i'd be a good secretary though," She said shaking her head, she wanted to make something of herself on her own, she didn't need to rely on Lance to get her through. Look what happened last time she'd relied on him, he'd left when she was taking care of his child alone just to be with another woman.
"You coming?" She asked with a smile as she started to fumble her way up the path, it sure was slippery but she at least hadn't fallen down yet. Well that is until it started to get steeper and her foot gave out, Kenn's hand digging into the earth as she tumbled back a few steps. She started laughing as she managed to turn so she was sitting on a rock that was laying flat out from the dirt. "I don't remember it being this hard when we were younger." She laughed still not noticing that there was a small gash on her thigh from a twig that had been sticking from the dirt. She couldn't even feel it though she hadn't looked because she knew since the ground was somewhat wet her entire half of her body was practically mud. "I'm so thankful I took moms shirt off." She was embarassed and starting to ramble now.

As Lance was talking the ring of the phone interrupted them. His reaction was about the same as Kennedy's. He knew she would have to answer that. He knew that could possibly mark the end of tonight for them. He wasn't ready to say goodbye. He wanted to keep her close like this and not worry about when the next argument would come up. He could only hope that with time there would be this kind of peace between them at all times. He nodded as she said she would have to answer that, "Of course." He wanted to know if it was about Ryan as well. He pushed himself up to follow her the wind stinging his skin a feeling of cold waving over him. He smiled as she was just as happy as him about the recording deal, "Thanks. I'll have my first album out in a few months. I think my agent said that we're doing an early release just for the town of Pleasant before it going worldwide."
He couldn't wait until Kennedy heard the songs that he had written for her. This album was all about his life and everything he had gone through. Some of the songs had been difficult to write but he was most proud of them. He knew she wouldn't want the secretary job but thought he should offer just in case. He followed her up there having a few problems here and there, "There is no way it could be this hard," he chuckled. It must have gotten steeper with the years because it had been a while since he had been there. He stayed standing finding his ground his muscles tensing with the effort they were making so he was standing straight. He looked down at her and smiled, "Guess we're just getting too old for this kind of stuff." He joked with her as he winked playfully.
His mid calf and down was completely covered in mud though with her fall she was worse. He nodded as she mentioned her mother's shirt, "It looked beautiful on you as always though." He smiled thinking back to when she was wearing the shirt. It was like when she wore the shirt she had this kind of glow to her that he had noticed whenever she would wear it around her. He didn't know how to describe it exactly but there was definitely a difference in her presence. He then noticed her cut on her thigh. He bent his knees so he could lower himself so they were face to face in level. "Kenn, you're bleeding," he said this softly as he moved one hand so that it was on her thigh near the cut, "I think I have a few towels up in my car." He always had towels in his trunk because he used to forget them when he would go surfing.

At mention of his album Kenn felt bad, though she didn't show it as she had a brave smile on to hide any other emotion she could possibly be feeling. Not that she didn't think it'd been amazing that a dream was coming true for him, but it just didn't seem fair considering she had dreams too and would never have a chance to get them to come true because she'd be taking care of their child. It just seemed Lance got to live it up in the high life while Kennedy was stuck in the background gathering dust. "That's cool, i'm happy for you." She said simply knowing that if she had said anything else he might have caught on that she'd been lying, well somewhat considering she still had been happy for him.
She did let a sincere fit of laughter fall from her lips as he made the joke about them being too old, "Yeah that just has to be it." She grinned as she looked back at him for a minute noticing that he too had been getting dirty. "It sure has changed over the past few years." She made this comment mostly to herself. She wondered if there had been an easier way up and they just hadn't seen it, maybe the kids these days had made another path where you wouldn't have to get so damn dirty. She was about a little over halfway from the water though so she was doing fine, or at least she thought she was doing fine until her foot slipped and she tumbled.
Still laughing as he knelt down she looked at him as he started to speak, her eyes widening as he said she'd been bleeding. She glanced down to where she could see it and sure enough there had been traces of blood mixed in with the dirt that had been all over her legs and side. He mentioned having a towel up in his vehicle and she just looked back up at him with a chuckle. "Blood stains, i'd ruin it." She spoke calmly. She knew she had to be more careful this time around though, and of course she didn't have anything to clean the gash up with so she just left it for the timebeing, and she turned around finding the rocks placed along the path up, and having standed on the rock finally had made it less slippery.
When she finally made it to the top she placed her hands on her knees bending forward so she could take a breathe, she'd been practically holding it that last leg of the journey because she didn't want to fall and make an ass of herself again. "You know me Lance, i'm clumsy. One little cut isn't a big deal," She told him shaking her head as she walked back to her vehicle, and pulled out a plastic container. "First rule of thumb when you're a single mom, well any mom really, or parent I guess, keep a case of diaper wipes in the car at all time." She knew all too well you needed them everywhere for each and every mess. She took the first diaper wipe and slowly slid it across her thigh. "Oh, snap." She told herself as the spot had been somewhat sensitive. "See and all I need next is some neo to go and a bandaid, two more things a mother never forgets." She grinned, she wanted Lance to know that she was taking good care of their child and herself. "I really have grown up you know, motherhood hit like a lighting bolt." That was the truth, she had been all alone when Ryan had been first born anyway.
